Mischo's Condition Improving for the Showdown!

Kogelberg, South Africa - The first day of Hot Heels Africa began at Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve today. The riders were taking it easy for the first few runs just feeling out the course. During the morning session there was a headwind going into Lloyd’s Left that helped to keep the speeds down. By the afternoon, the wind shifted to a tailwind and the riders began pushing themselves. As the speeds increased, so did the number of crashes.

Andreas Johnsen needed some attention from the medics after he took a blow to his back in a fall. Fortunately he was soon back up on his feet. The vibe was mellow as the riders got in plenty of runs throughout the day. By the time practice stopped, many had already changed out of their leathers after a long day in the sun.

Mischo Erban visited the physical therapist this morning before heading out of Cape Town for Pringle Bay. The mobility in his ankle is much better and he is back in his tuck. He took it easy pushing off the line, but was flying down the course. Scoot was in his element to be back at Hot Heels after missing 2008 due to injury. Stephan Ruefli and Olivier Bareaud were also charging. Mike Zietsman had work commitments but will be here for time trials tomorrow.

The riders are now enjoying a relaxed evening at the Hangklip Hotel, overlooked by the dramatic cliffs that give it its name.
