There's heaps of cool hills to learn on around Wollongong. A lot are easier to get to if you've got a car. If you've got a helmet the security at uni are pretty cool with you skating around on weekends and after hours if you're in a small enough group. Whimbrel Avenue in Berkeley is a nice beginner hill. Creek Run in Cordeaux Heights is cool but a little busy. Theres one or two in Mangerton. A couple of smooth little runs in Austinmer.
I can't stress enough the need for a helmet hey. Not just for you guys' safety, but for the general image of guys riding fast on longboards. The more old ladies see guys skating around without safety gear, the more chance there is of old ladies calling the police on anyone skating around - even with safety gear.
