It is laminated timber, the fibre glass & resin are the bonding agent within the laminate. Google Blakkross Boards, they make a Carbon Fibre Buttboard which Pete Eliot rode at Newtons.
There are no real benefits in Fibre Glass layers in a clasic, in my opinion. this weighs close to what most Buttboards do, a light weight board just means slower top end speeds but quicker starts. Most buttboards complete are as close to the maximum weight restrictions for this reason. Some people put alot of time and effort into producing light weight luges and classic luges only to find they get beaten by heavier boards. that being said, if your boards are too heavy you need more braking and have slower acceleration out of turns. it's all about getting the right balance between the two.
