I got a good deal off Pat as it was a pan and heads that had been lying around in his unit for a while, I shaped the Pan, welded on Handles and support Plates and Painted it added trucks&wheels(sort of a project he never got around to finishing). unfortunately he's left Sydney and gone to the land of Queens.
However I know he would do a good deal for anyone(better than most luge builders) It all depends on complete or wether you wanna do a bit yourself.
When I first started luging I thought the best part was riding something that you had created yourself from scratch. However when you have the imput of people like pat, that have years of experience going into luge building, you love riding even more.
The way I see it is, out of all the luges buttboards etc i've built I would of wasted so much cash, thinking, I can make a wicked luge that is lighter, faster, more comfortable or that looks good. but If I had of just bought a Blank off Pat right from the get go I would of saved so much dosh. Sure I've added a few personal touches here and there but it is the Aliminium used, The welds & bends that make a huge difference.
Alot of riders have built luges themselves which helps to understand what makes them perform, but quite often they end up buying one someone else has made.
I did the same with buttboards, but my favourite is still Sparks BB.
It's a shame there is so many rocks and crap on the roads that flick up and destroy the paint!

I am worried about going down the road to constructing my own.
yeah Ive heard it becomes an addiction trying to make faster rigs. I will buy a luge one day (when my wife lets me)
but yeah,... making one could end up being more expensive in the long run.

Your buttboard that I got in the Mountain Mick fundraiser is still going strong Phil. :)
A few other guys in the crew have had fun riding it too. Its done some big hills, and has even been out on garage runs.

Sweet thats good to hear! You'll find after riding a buttboard then jumping on a luge it really gives you skills that make you a good luge rider!
