finally got the friggin thing working Bernie... tested it with a single lane wireless set up at a distance of 100m..took about 25 times no problems. still not tested 100% but see how it goes at Canberra with the "time machine" dual lane wireless. the reed switch relay seems to overcome the cable issue or the need for opto isolators..I'll post up a thread with cct diags/photos when it's all rockin 100%....but thanks for all your help on this oh great wise bearded one......couldn't have done it without you

PS.. training up the young fella to encode the software to cut about 1 second on every run that I do...ha ha
