Hi guys, I am new to building boards and I am wondering where I can find the best wood for my board?

Hey Jed - welcome to the forums.  What part of Melbourne your from (I don't need to know the exact suburb) - I'm down Mornington way and there's a few places (not just down here).  What sort of board did you want to try and make and what pressing method did you have in mind?

Deeks

I'm from sunbury, and a board around 28-34 inches to fit in my locker at school so i can cruise home. And more for the challenge of building a board. I was thinking just clamping a bit of wood into the middle for some concave and for it to set, but i dunno how to do a kicktail?

Ok. Some Bunnings have decent plys you can use. You wanna look for something around 4mm thick and in a decent timber - marine or waterproof plys are ideal. 3 layers and you'll get a decent deck (12mm thick). A simple rail press would do it for you. I made a press some time ago that only cost me about 30 bucks for materials (check out some of my older photos on my page)

This is a good starting point if money is tight and you are just using ply or whatever
