Images/ graphics onto deck.
Hello, what is the best way to print or whatever to put a image/graphic onto a deck? Ive tried ricepaper, how did that guy on the main page meat something get that graphic. Is there any way to print onto a fabric and then cut out and epoxy onto deck? How do the professionals do it. Also hoop pine ply, is that a good wood to make a speedboard out of, for stifness, if not what is a good wood that is easy to get in qld? And what is the best glue to use. Please post jig and press photos and board s that have been made with graphics.

wow Flobo... firstly welcome - secondly, ask a question or two.! I think there's an old thread here about graphics on decks - I don't recall reading the best way - there was ricepaper mentioned and such, but I think there's been some hand-drawn successes with varying types of paints/inks. The best success I've had is via a laser printer and a sharp knife and laying it on the deck with epoxy - Have a look at my page (rather than post shite loads of pictures here): http://www.skateboardracing.org.au/photo/ribpress007?context=user
I would expect the Pros work on pre-cut/printed lamintaes (vinyl, etc). Hoop pine is great stuff - stiffness can be achieved by more ply's or reinforcement like fibreglass or carbon fibre. You're in the right part of the country to get access to a larger variety of veneers and plywoods than the southern states, so look around your hardware suppliers (even Bunnings!).
Glues - generally the more you pay the better they will be - Titebond III is amongst the best and maybe $14 for 500ml (generally enough for 1 deck of 7 or 8 plys)
I've tried a couple of different press types and settled with Vacuum bagging, but again, look at my page http://www.skateboardracing.org.au/profile/Deeks63 or any of the guys who post regulalry in this group for ideas and inspiration... Good luck!

I printed the image on a colour laser printer at work, then cut it out with a sharp knife, painted some epoxy on the bottom of the board, stuck the print on the epoxy, then painted more epoxy over the top of the cut-out print - two coats if I recall.
Put all the plys in at the one time - not sure what sort of ply you're thinking of - when I used that rail-press (I got it wrong when I posted those pic's - it's a rail press not a rib press) I was using 2 sheets of 6mm thick marine ply, but you could use 3 sheets of 4mm, 4 sheets of 3mm, whatever you can get your hands on really...

Doesn't really matter too much - I cut out the basic shape of mine to ensure the area where the trucks were to be mounted was nice and flat. something like this: http://www.skateboardracing.org.au/photo/ribpress001?context=user as that was the type of deck I mainly make. Once the glue has set, then you can cut it out neatly to your desired shape.
The decks I made with this press were all made with Marine grade ply - this usually has a nice clear (no knots or imperfections) facing and is put together with waterproof glue during it's manufacture. Steer clear of C/D grade pine plys as they're not up to the riggers of longboarding and the centre plys are usually rubbish (I used to work at a veneer plant MANY years ago and put this sort of shite together, so I know what goes into the middle plys!).
