ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

already posted on silverfish, thought it better if i get some local answers as well haha

1 – What Woods are best for working with to make a dancing longboard?

2 – What is the best method of adding concave to the boards?

3 – If the answer is a press, what press design is best?

4 – What are the advantages of a using a vac bag? Would you recommend this to a beginner?

5 – What is the best length and width for a dancing board?

6 – Anything else you would like to add?

I know these questions are all likely answered elsewhere but i need this survey filled out by exprienced people for my research project. I dont need anything in depth, so please, help a brother out

hey mate do u still need those questions answered? cause im making a big ol 1.5 m dancer and i could answer them. :)

hay buddy i have started making my own boards aswell adn so far this is what i have found
1) maple is veneer is prolly your best option it is quite solid stuff and not too hard to come by you just need to find a shop in your area if you are in the stdney area check out briggs veneer they go up to 120cm by 30cm and sell complete sets so you get 2 face, 2 core(help strengthen) , 3 centres.

2) i use a foam mould for all my shapping work ou just need to find some high density foam like insulation foam works best.

3 and 4) i really like the roarkit vac bag as it does all i need if you get the bigger option you can progress to drop boards aswell. it is a really easy method to use get your foam glue your wood and whip it all into the bag and pump like mad (=

5) completely up to you and what you want to do with itjust do some research on what other companies have put out

6) when drilling trucks make sure you get it straight as you can possibly be as if they are off it really does affect the ride of the board also use a flat spacer to felp get your holes all lined up.

i think thats about it it aye good luck with your research project hope it helped

woah thanks Dougie, that is really helpful! ive been using the 3mm plywood from bunnings, works alright for anything except for drop boards and kicks . also how do you cut the foam into the right shape accurately?
thanks guys, finished up research project a while go but this is helpful nonetheless!
yeah sam look up on roarkits site and it will have a vid on it (= but effectively i just use a wood saw and a block of sound paper but yeah i started in ply and had the same problem kept snapping tails.

thanks but those bags are expensive! would i be able to just clamp 2 pieces of the foam around the board instead? also where can i get the foam from in sydney? and what price ? i am also looking at briggs veneers website and they have skateboard veneers but do not specify price, is there any other places that sell veneers for a good price? Thanks a lot mate :)
