Just saw the ad for Channel Seven news for tomorrow (Thursday 21st April).
Looks like Channel Sevem is doing a hackett job on downhill skateboarding tomorrow. I haven't got time to rip and upload the video of the ad so here are the words:

Motorist BEWARE!!!
High speed thrill seekers putting your life and theirs at risk.
(Jacko sound bite) Every road we skate is illegal to ride.
Why Sydney is now the hotspot of this dangerous sport.
Who is pushing the boundaries of safety and the law?
On Seven News tomorrow at 6.

Leigh did well and this report wasn't bad but Channel 7 are still not to be trusted. Snakes, the lot of em. Worse than the police or Satan...
We have a reporter at Channel 10 who has done some really good reports and stories. She has been really fair and all in all, a champ. Channel 7 can go fuck themselves...
Leigh did a really good job in that.
Last bit of the report highlighted Leigh showing a more than expected responsible attitude to the sport.
I think that it was a fair report, and not a hatchet job.
That journo might even be helpful for getting a good news story out on an event when you can get a road closed.
Dani said:Haha, worst ad ever! That was intense...

We were just on Channel 7 down here.
all my questions were focused on the positives of the sports, so there wasn't any possibility to twist the story in the edit without losing my interview altogether. the journo i had was great and she kept saying that all the boss wanted was to show that we are actually a responsible group of athletes as opposed to reckless trouble makers.
channel 7 aint all bad. guess it depends on who the director is and how they are feeling at the time.
full toasting it looks like. When i was asked to do an interview i was informed it would be a follow up on Leigh's one in Adelaide, but on a more national level. I saw how his turned out and it looked ok so i figured if we can expand on Leigh's good story iot can have good benefits.
Throughout the whole course of the interview it was pointed in the direction of a positive attitude. The journalist aimed the interview as an informative peice, such as "what are kids into these days?". They got some comments from the groms and their thoughts and i just explained what we do the best i could. It seemed fine.
I was then contacted by channel 7 asking for more skateboarding footage and if they could come shoot some more stuff. I then told them about how the commercial for the story was very dissapointing and i felt like i (and other longboarders) had been labled as a criminal and if it didnt get run the way we aimed it to i want no part in the story. We will just have to wait and see what happens.
Either way publicity is publicity, good or bad. Either people will be more aware of longboarding from a positive point of view or a negative point of view, either way they will be aware that people do it, and the numbers are growing rapidly
There have been a couple of people hit up in West Aus by CH 7 / the West Australian newspaper for interviews, it looks to me like they are trying to trash the sport nationally, there angle is to make a story that sells to the majority (sheep)
It is the same as the blitz that went on against skateboarding when I was about 15 years old, the cops cracked down and made it real hard for a while, when they saw that we weren't gonna stop skating and it got more and more popular, they layed off slowly, pretty soon there were facilities for skating ie council built skate parks and the like
All we have to do is be responsible, leave all the areas you bomb, freeride or whatever in the same condition or even better than when you got there ie no rubbish etc, get to know and get along with the locals where you ride and build up a good relationship with them, and of course keep riding!
Sooner or later things will smooth out, if all of us keep showing what we do in a positive light and show that we are not gonna give it up or go away then maybe hill shutdowns for organised events, specialist facilities and the like will come of it
If I ever get hit up by the media I will be directing enquiries to ASRA

Yeah, that wasn't too bad.
And I agree with Jake.
Pretty balanced story overall ,
They say the same shit about anything they dont understand.
But in saying that if they point a camera at you , and you sign a release they can do what they want
