It's called bad publicity ! It's the last thing we need at the monent , watch the news tonight ( outlaw skaters defy police )
Brissy police will be ripping you guys a new one , so to speak from now on ! .
+ not approving events
Hope it was worth it
Outlaw race on the weekend. Blown all out of proportion by the GC Bulletin. Will post some pics later.
This is the article
http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2009/04/13/68655_gold-coast-lea...

and this is me venting as some of us have found ourselves doing occasionally over the past 37 years (usually for the same reasons)

This really is bloody minded slow news day rubbish journalism. Though I know it wouldn't be the case, Jeremy has been made to come across as very cavalier and the headline "deadly skate craze" only goes to show the angle the editor was happy to cover. As for Cr Robbins remarks, on page 3 of the paper there lies a surfer in a hospital bed, how much tax money and donations are used each weekend for these guys who risk others lives for their sports; how many beach goers risk the lives of others with their stupidity in our waters each year. Cyclists heaving in packs on the Gold Coast roads reaching the same speeds as cars in places with just a helmet and no leathers. Skateboarding was always about downhill it's where it started; the ollie didn't exist on the streets when I started skating. Yes we know skateboarding will never have an acceptable face according to Cr Roberts, who I'm sure can show she has never backed skate park funding in order to help the local community, can't she?
I guess as I wasn't there nor have I, as yet, taken part in any of the "organised" Goldy runs I can't really say too much. Though this article coming from the same press that gave Daddow and the boys so much positive coverage on their build up last year and also recently, leaves a bad taste in my mouth and should be replied to in full by those that were there. Perhaps invite the journo out for a propa skate so they can see what we are really about, how old the majority of us really are and just what safety protocols we have, even if there are unwritten.
Don't let this chance slip by lads! show them there are two sides to this...and as a qualified Sports Medicine Australia sports trainer and sports therapist I'm happy for it to be known I have always held my first aid services and clinic door open to any DH skaters living or visiting the Goldy....

It's not the fault of the press when ," it is illegal ", has no approval , no insurance , ect.... & has been promoted via the internet !
the organisers of this will be lucky not to receive fines from the police & council as they are liable .
legal events such as BTB will wear the backlash , & it will be harder to find sponsors for bathurst ect .
as i said
I hope it was worth it !
this was actually kind of an issue in Orpington Kent UK around 1977....as I said it has been going on for years it will never change or get any better than it does on a good day today. Unfortunately at its worse some people choose to skate the way a huge number do in the UK now; wearing hi viz vests at night. MADNESS.
This will blow over, it will revert back to where it was a few months ago and then eventually it will get worse again.
For those new to skating welcome to the world it's just how it is; live it, ride it and if need be vent on occasion but don't hang yourself up for a huge change it ain't gonna happen.
On the goldy and surrounds a few quiet runs and probably a good time to explore some new out of the way ground....there's loads of it.
Front cover tho!

& on the news tonight
Why would anyone be silly enough to invite media to an illegal event ????
on a unmarked under 60 kph you can legaly skate only up to the speed limit 60kph , but you cannot legaly hold events without approval or go over 60kph !
We all flaunt the law in this sport , but please don't get the media to cover it , if it's not approved .
I Spoke To The Reporter And He Loved It, And Was Impressed That We Did Take Measures To Be Safe. The Female Voice In The Footage Was Never There And Wrote Out Of Misunderstanding. But Although This Does Give A Bad Light We Didnt Go Out And Disrespect The Authorities Or Neighbours
Media will always put a negative spin on things if given the opportunity , it sells ! ( & they should be treated like they will )
The trick is to only give them the opportunity to repport on legit events not the underground ones .
they are only interested in selling their story good or bad !

You know I kinda missed this point....who invited the bloody press? One of the reasons I have two "playgrounds" I kinda keep to myself and those I invite; that way they don't get over run or publicised. The old pool thing was you had to be invited and if you turned up uninvited or with someone that hadn't cleared it with everyone else you were told to sod off...not only American pools but any decent spot that was a bit ify.
Not exactly localism but keeping a spot open as long as possible..........The thing with the press is they are like a scummy dog, all wagging tail and rolling over but sooner or later they'll bite you in the arse.
