Hi, I'm looking for some advice about setting up a board for riding when its wet.

I ride my board to work and have found that during winter it is as slippery as hell, and the bearings get destroyed (I know, don't ride through puddles, but its not always convenient).

Ive done some research and found out about wheels:

However, what about bearings? Do water proof bearings exist, if not, what do people do?

I'm after something low maintenance, not a "Wash them every time you use them" kind of an answer.

Thanks.

dry them out by putting your board upside down and kicking the wheels for minutes at a time, bro use the same wet weather wheels and bearing each time it rains, they might be slow but fuck u dont want to be rocketing in the wet, and about the wheels they only work well if its raining hard with heaps of water on the road....
Thanks.

I currently CRC the wheels immediately after I get home/to work and then give them a quick spin. I find that helps.
White lithium grease is what you want.
But you should regularly clean and re-grease them maybe once every 2 months.
My bearings have a solid layer of grease that has come out of the bearing and covered the places where water could seep in, but I also spin them out just in case
ok, so what im hearing is:

Get some Bones Ceramic Super Reds
Put them in wet weather wheels (not that it really matters a huge amount)
Shove so much lithium grease into the wheels that there is no way water could ever get into there.
Clean bearings every 100 rides or so.

What I'm going to do is:

Use my existing and not so fast bearings (after all, I really don't want to go too fast in the wet).
put them in normal wheels (And look at getting wet weather wheels in the future).
Shove so much lithium grease into the wheels that there is no way water could ever get into there.
Replace bearings with normal Reds every 150 rides or so.

Thanks for your input everyone.
Here dude, try these: http://www.hopkin.com.au/bones-swiss-ceramic-bearings.html
It says that they're water proof and what not, but ive never used them so dont hold me to them ;) But at $189 for a set of 8 they aint cheap
Or this... xD

Maybe the bearings cant rust,... but normally the races in ceramics are still metal.

I think greasing your slow bearings sounds like the best option. Its the cheapest option too.

I wouldnt pack them with grease, just get some in there, but the idea of sealing the gaps on the outside is good.

Thanks for that, I will investigate.

However, Ill bet that the 6.3 sets of Normal Reds that I could buy for the same price would last just as long with a bit of grease :)
