You did a great job robbo, haggy, and all of the asra crew!

The only thing i can really think of is a bit more publicity. When we were in bathurst a few days before and we were telling people what we were there for, a lot of them were like, "we didn't even know it was on.
I know more publicity is more money. Hopefully more sponsors, will allow for more publicity, which means more spectators.

Whats the deal with the broadcast equipment?
Can other events hire it, it would be cool to get vid of the CHC race at BTB next year if you guys want to run another race there. We'd need a generator to power it, but if you can let us know if it needs a specific type of geny, then we can try and account for this into our budget.

As for practice sessions, i think if you split the times you'll be right even if you can't get an extra day.

Why not run an F1 style system with every competitor carrying a transponder? It's used in R/C car racing so im sure it would work for us. That way we could have practice all day Friday then have qualifying on Saturday in the morning till lunch time then after lunch have a V8 supercar style top 10 shoot out for all disciplines to determine the starting order of the top 10, everyone else is based on their top run from the morning session.

Or just have 2 days of practice/qualifying and your best time come Saturday arvo is where you start.

As for drafting etc, it happens in motorsport qualifying but your timing has to be spot on and it's almost a fluke to pull it off well. As for blatant slingshoting, pushing or intentionaly giving someone a shove for more speed then they're disqualified and they pack their bags and head home.

I think the IGSA should be looking at it to replace the current timing and using it at all WC events, the current system has been the same for 10+ years

Time for a change i say.

race to qualify is the way to go... i would like to see the IGSA change the rule book to accommodate this rule, not only is it better for the spectators and gives everyone more chances to run the hill, but it allows more race experience to be gained especially for those new to racing.
take all the canadian races for example, they are all run in a day and have over 100 competitors... next vid i will be putting up of Danger Bay to LA will show you how simple it is, big man at the top of the hill announcing the rules says "its race to qualify, so dont worry everyone here GETS TO RACE AT LEAST 2 HEATS TODAY, so put your game faces on and have fun"
so in one day you can get a few practice runs in, then race to qualify, and then if you get knocked out in the first round you have already had 5 runs down the hill, 3 of which are in race format

Publicity was a bit of a struggle this year. Aside from a lack of time and money our 14m x 1.8m banner that we paid for to be put up over the main street of bathurst for the 2 weeks leading into the event only lasted 7hrs before a 1 in 100year windstorm tore it to shreds. We sent countless media releases to the local paper emailed them profiles of local riders and spoke to them over the phone many times about doing stories which they said would be published in a blanket nature. We got one actual story in the paper 2 days before the event which was simply baffling. They had lead stories of the guy who found his wallet after a night at the pub and the cockroach that got run over in the main street, aside from our poster and flyer drops it became a bit of a blackout. We subsequently found out from a woman at council that they were waiting for us to do some paid advertising with them and they were than going to give us blanket stories. Due to the unethical nature of journo's acting like that they did not tell us this we were just meant to understand the code. I think they thought we had some big money behind us with PR people rather than us being a regular sporting association. We might need some PR coaching about slipping 50s into handshakes to journo's. Strangly we got 6 pages a day for the week after the event when there was no chance that money was arriving.

A transponder system is the obvious way to deal with the qual issue it just a matter of getting a price on this

Jacko,
Is that Canadian race format due to the limited amount of time that they get to close their roads?
If so it makes sense.
Are the Canadian events IGSA events?

There might be a good case for ASRA to start negotiating with Marcus now on having a set of rules tailored to Bathurst for 2010,on the basis that track time is so limited, or insufficient when a big field of riders, who travel so far at great expense, show up to compete.
Some thought needs to given to that, so that IGSA is still able to retain "ownership" of the allocation of world championship points at Bathurst, within it's own rules, so that we can still attract OS IGSA competitors.

Is it possible to limit the timed runs to Friday, for the purpose of allocating the qualifying "slots" for the Canadian format running Saturday and Sunday?
Not sure how many timed runs you would grant each rider, that would depend on track time available and weather on Friday.
I think that the key thing would be for riders to show that they can complete a crash free run on Friday, to be allowed to qualify the next day.

well u can change the rules for just one race, if you want to race to qualify then all IGSA races have to be like that. and yeah the canadian ones ive been to that do that have only one day to use the hill thats why.

otherwise theres one simple simple option to solve this drama... get more days on the hill. that way you can spend ONE WHOLE DAY doing qualify runs, get everyone's runs done and there you have it. Take peyragudes for example, its a 5 day event, they use a whole day of practice, then 2 days of practice and qualify and then a whole day of racing with also an extra day for rain... thats the most efficient way to run it without changing rules

Hi Guys,

Again let me say what a great job you all did at this years event.

On the publicity side of things I reckon aligning with a Good cause or Public Interest item in Bathurst would help get the word out. Not only will it help advertise the event but it will raise awareness of the sport and the people in it, while involving the Local community.

Try Tv Ads sometimes you can get good deals where the ads are only $20 -$25 each, and by aligning with something or someone they to could help cover these costs.

Also everyone involved with ASRA, this site and different disiplines, should start emailing and posting letters to the media boffins, telling them what a great event this is, how many overseas competitors were involved and are expected to return for next year.

The squeaky wheel gets oiled, so let's all start getting squeaky and keep pushing these media people to get off their butts and Showcase a Great Event that is held at the World Famous Mt Panarama Curcuit.

Well Done Again To The Organizers, Sponsors, and All That were Involved.

Totally Awesome Job.
