Does anyone know if.these laws have.changed ???

I doubt the laws have changed. Cops often say things that are not consistent with the law.

New laws in Qld since earlier this year include skateboarding is not allowed after dark!!!!!

Skateboarding on the road that is. Skating on the footpath, the skatepark, your driveway etc. are legally OK at night, with or without lights.

Not according to the head of traffic in this area. he advised me that skateparks and home are ok but footpaths and the road are off limits after dark. I asked him about guys whose board is their only for of transport and he advised that that is the law and that they can get booked, whether or not they will is up to the discretion of the particular officer.

This is why ive asked , theres so many interpetations of the law , but i find nowhere written in black and white saying i cant skate on the footpath at night , and weve been warned of fines if caught again , whats the world coming to ! Cant skate home from work on the footpath geeees !
recreational wheeled devices are not allowed to be used in SA at night. Not sure about QLD...

Adrian, the head of traffic in your area is full of it. The Qld Department of Transport says the following about riding skateboards at night:

(if you need to ride at night, you can ride your wheeled recreational device on a footpath)

(from http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Registration/Registering-vehicles/Wheelch...)

And the Qld road rules are in agreement with the Department of Transport - they only ban road riding at night (and footpaths are not included in the definition of a road). See section 240 of the Qld road rules http://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/LEGISLTN/CURRENT/T/TrantOpRURR09.pdf for yourself.

I'm sure the Townsville "head of traffic" will enjoy the little law lesson you will give him based on these facts.
