ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

So I figure this is probably pretty useless for most people, but if there's anyone heading to Europe this year they may want to check this out.

Basically, imagine skating an insane hill at 3am in broad daylight, worrying about nothing more than the occasional family of reindeer or stacking rider and you might get an inkling as to what this event is about. I attended it last year when it was a bit less organized and more of an outlaw thing and can attest its rad as with rad skating and rad people.

The event is held in Syöte, Finland, on the 12.-14.7.2013. The hill leads up to a ski resort and has small group of cottages at the top. There are also a few other skateable hills in the area. You have the choice of booking a cottage (with sauna of course), hotel or camping and generally people sleep from 6am to 6pm and then skate all night all over the region while there are no cars. The guys seem to have stepped up the game this year and made it into a legit event on a closed road with some live music, slide jams, beginners sesh ect. so it should be a great time for everyone with skating happening 24 hours a day while the festival is on. There is no race as far as I know but it'll be a great freeride.

Couple that with some breath taking scenery, the surreal feeling of skating in the midnight sun and some of the nicest/most insane guys you're likely to meet and you're in for a great few days. I'm considering making the trip and reckon other Aussies would have a blast there too.
