ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

So the lads from Creature rolled in to Newcastle yesterday for a session at the new bowl at Empire skate park, followed by beers and a bbq back at Newcastle Skate Shop.

The team consisted of Darren Navarrette, Al Partanen, Dave Gravette, Taylor Bingaman, Truman Hooker, and Ryan Reyes. They also brought Santa Cruz shredder Emanual Guzman along for the ride, as well as Aussie fiends RJ, Pee Wee, and Gabbers.

All the boys were ripping. Words can not describe how fast Eman's skating is in real life. Gravette ollied over the rails into the rock wall on the beach, and was attempting 540's. Taylor was doing deep end corner grinds with a durry in his mouth. Al was Busting noseblunts and stalefishes, but the stand outs were RJ, and Pee Wee who were launching a good 6 foot out of the bowl.

Unfortunately Navarrette's session was cut short when a local kids ran of with his board, which resulted in  Navs and about 50 young groms chasing the young thieves along the beach and around the oval for about 20 minutes. The alleged thieves were eventually confronted but the board was never recovered.

The bbq was a pretty mellow affair with stories being swapped over Roo burgers, a few beers, and spliffs in the back of the van.

The boys are now making their way up to Pizzey skate park on the Gold Coast, with a few stops in between. So if you see a bunch of heavily tattooed metal heads tearing up a park or rail near you, go check it out and say hi, they are seriously some of the friendliest guys you will ever meet.

Big thanks to Newcastle Skate Shop and the guys from Creature Skateboards for making it all possible.

Here's few shots from the demo.

nice write-up mate, gotta get myself a shortboard and checkout this bowl, only live 15mins away and haven't even seen it yet.

Cheers Uan. Couldn't make it up that day, good to see some photos & stories.

RJ is amazing to watch in the gold bowl, Fast lines & big airs everywhere.

Radonski, maybe you should check out the bowl before you go buying a skateboard, it's only been there a year.
