ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Ok, we have put up a new vid of the course with a guided tour commentary on the site at http://www.beatthebastard.com.au/default.asp?PageID=24&n=Mt+Stu... I'd like to think everyone who hasn't ridden Mt Stuart would have a very close look at this vid and take note of the necessity to be able to brake while going downhill and accelerating. This hill is not like Pump Station where you don't need to brake. If you can't brake solidly this is not the hill for you. As this is a freeride there will not be bales all the way down the hill, we will have bales at strategic locations but it will be expected that riders are sufficiently competant to not be hitting them or running off the road where there aren't any.

I know that the previous BtB thread was moved to the actual event page, but I really need this thread and the one I am about to write about guardians for groms to be read and understood.

Cheers

thanks Ado, Nice work, good heads up, ill now the run brfore i even get there!!!! Sooo excited.
One thing that I forgot to mention is that I have asked some of the experienced riders (and I'll be asking a few more) to evaluate rider's abilities during the first few runs. If I get a report that a rider is out of his depth and a risk to either himself or other riders then I will pull that rider off the hill. Depending on the opinion of the experienced rider the removed rider may be allowed to run a shortened course more in keeping with his ability or may just be removed from the hill for his and other rider's safety.
Steve,

bear in mind that video flattens hills, so it is much steeper than it looks and "The Flat" is still downhill all the way, just not as downhill as the rest (;-)>

You are gunna luv this run!!!!!!!!!!

got a question for ya. on the track, after the 2nd 'gnarly right' down the straight on the next right (where we started the SGS from) will there be hay bails there or any sort of fencing? its one corner that threw me off last year, and in my mind is the gnarliest corner of the track. Not because of the difficulty, but if something went wrong you would go straight off the edge.
Also when your coming down into that straight you see the road bend around to the right and its a fairly blind corner but all you can see is this drop-off in front of you and it really sketched me out. i heard someone say once one of the luge riders went down there n pretty much destroyed his leg... if people were to accidently tangle up there and went off the road it would be devastating. will there be any sort of bales/barriers on that corner?
Jacko,

when will you be getting up here? If you are here on the Friday, can you show Gra and the crew where you mean (I'm pretty sure I know exactly where you are) and we'll do what we can. Hay bales will be in limited supply, but we should be able to chuck up some safety mesh barrier along that section.

It is great on a luge, all you can see is long grass and you have no idea that there is only about 45cm before the edge, until the burnoffs come and it is ALL exposed (;-)>

Joe,

think we are all pumped, I just hope that everyone is still just as pumped on May 17th!!!!!!!!!

Jacko had a great idea that I think we'll be adopting. He suggested that each new rider is sent down the hill with an experienced "buddy" for the first few runs (rather than in groups like last year). This way these experienced riders will be able to judge the ability of the rider under them and we can work out whether or not they can manage the whole run.

Cheers

This will also help the inexperienced rider(My self ) where to break and how heavily, what lines are good through the corners and will not end in a crash.

thats the way coop,..practice controlling speed, airbraking, footbraking etc........but kiera doesnt compare bro,but step in the right direction...you are so ready for ki-ra.
Agreed, the fastest and safest way to dial in a new hill is to follow an experienced guy down the hill,..with the experienced guy waiting a bit for you,so you can follow and observe,...............but usually after a couple of runs, they cant wait for you allday!
Pretty sure jacko was talkin bout that double apex righty that has a very long fall down the cliff if you were to lose it at speed, looks like it would end up a base jump....i made a point not to look off that edge....
