ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

What do you guys think about Air Fence? Apparently it's an Aussie product, but I wanted to know how much does it cost to rent the system? Pros and cons?

In Malaysia, we don't even have hay, but we do have the Malaysian Cub Prix championship races on small 125cc bikes and their circuits all use the Air Fence system. I'm trying to find out more info on their Air Fence system, to see if it's possible to rent them during their offseason. Since there is no hay in Malaysia, our only viable option is go to the Air Fence product.

Has ASRA looked into the Air Fence?

looks interesting, ..alternatives would be good, haybales have disadvantages (debris, time it takes to reset, they explode) with alternatives i worry about people sliding underneath, i had a quick look at their site and noticed one of their models has a special skirt which they say prevents people sliding under but it doesnt look like that is the model pictured here above??? would be interested to know prices.
Yeah that picture was just an example to fill up my post with an image and not just text, heh....but yes they do have a model with the skirt to prevent riders from sliding underneath. I want to know if ASRA has looked into it and get some feedback.

Air Fence looks good. It stops a guy sliding on the ground off a motorbike.
For ASRA it comes down to cost. You can not beat the haybale price, and they can be rented.
Also a haybale is easily replaced on race day if it gets damaged or ruined.
If haybales are not an option, and you have the budget, they look good.
What about making bales out of something else? ie sugar cane, grass, rice plants, anything plant long and soft could be baled.

Abdil, planning a race in 2010? Keep me in the loop, lets talk at Newton's.
Apparently here in Oz some of the major bike manufacturers own them and supply them to race meets for free in return for advertising (obviously they have their name plastered all over them) Would be a great alternative to hay and less hassle if it was cost effective. Plus if it can take a 250kg bike at 200km/h i dont think a skateboard going 80km/h would be much of a problem ;)

Furlong, if you're planning something maybe try get in touch with the moto association over there and see if they can help and/or have some you could rent for a weekend.
we are planning to use the yamaha air fence for the race we are planning to hold in adelaide catch up with typhoon at bathurst he has the reps contact details . Ive been told there is 5km of it so the possibility of lining every corner would be sweet and save heaps on clean up .---------catch ya at the mountain

Hemp?
One thing ASRA has learnt the last few years is cutting down on safety barriers. You dont need to line a whole track, seems like good safety precaution but adds to cost due to site prep, load in and load out. You only want barriers at crash zones.
I think 2010 is too soon, but yeah, we can talk at Newtons. We can also talk to the guys from the Philippines to get some sort of collaboration going on. See you in less than 2 weeks!
