On Saturday 14/3/15 we had a fast day of slalom in Fawkner Park . On the heels of the great Friday 13th banked slalom the night before. Our two events, a timed hybrid slalom and a 100 cone slalom. Good weather with a gusting side/ tail wind. A gang of keen riders turning out for the session.
The Slalom.
The slalom was set with about 60 cones, it started with a snaked 2.6m cone setting, then offset 3m and the final third a 1.8m straight setting. Good times set with most rider...s getting faster as the afternoon went by. Clean runes weren’t the norm so the 0.2 sec cone penalty had an effect on some placing.
Placing (all times have penalties added)
1. Daniel Monaghan 17.84 sec clean
2. Jon Mc Grath 17.86 sec 1 cone
3. Merv Rowley 22.63 sec 1 cone
4. Nick Rosa 22.79 sec 3 cones
5. Kyral 24.30 sec clean
6. Matt 24.56 sec 2 cones
7. Jack Adams 24.72 sec clean
8. Hambo 25.80 sec 4 cones
9. Simone 26.41 sec 1 cone
10. Kelly 31.31 sec clean
11. Bernie 31.62 sec 2 cones
Good to see legend Jon Mc Grath back after breaking his arm in the invitation only Elgato Classic in California a couple of months ago.
On to the 100 cone slalom.
This needed to be clean to count. With the best effort of everyone and the wind making it pretty fast there no clean runs,( the best done was about 60 cones clean) so it was decided to run the coarse the opposite direction . It was painful to see so many people getting to within 5 cones of the finish and blowing up, but the challenge was enjoyed.

1. Daniel Monaghan 32.25 sec clean
2. Merv Rowley 39.10 sec clean
3. Nick Rosa 40.65 sec clean
The comp was interrupted by the RAAF air show over head to coincide with the F1 Grand Prix, just mind blowing.
Lots of crew got to try out some very hi-tech slalom rigs and got an understanding of coarse setting and design. It was a fun day.
Big thanks to Estelle, Bernie and other riders for helping out with the time keeping and coarse setting, Bernie for electronic timing, Hambo for cones and Merv for his blower and track prep and chalking.

come down and help the setting of Victorian 100 cone record. The Australian record is 27.620 seconds?
