I reckon there are Billycart Races out there,don't be offended by this,and thankfuly there seem to be very few people out there with your opinion,and it is your opinion and you're entitled to it. Perhaps the past should be the past and we should present a united front rather than a divided one. Perhaps one day we'll find a situation where Billycarts and the rest can race head to head. I was led to believe ASRA was non political with no discrimination,it appears this may not be the case.

no one wants to see billy carts dude... dont get me wrong i think they are pretty cool but when it comes to an event the main show is standup, luge and buttboard... when there is only one day to hold all that things have gotta get scrapped... if you wanna be involved ride a luge or a skateboard, if not then wait untill theres a more suitable event to DEMO the billycarts... im sure theres billy cart races out there, and if they are i dont think any skaters/lugers/buttboarders get invited to them...

By the way this is an ASRA organised event, and im pretty sure ASRA stands for australian SKATEBOARD racing association...
im really not trying to be rude or discriminate against other disciplines here, i just dont think theres anything 'political' about it... if you look on the flyer it does say "skateboard, luge, buttboard"

This is all just my opinion

I received n invitation from you to attend so I therefore assumed billycarts were included. Politics is hell. Maybe when some of the luge blokes have finished the Billycarts they are building "Gravity Racing" will become truly non political. Gravity Bikes have mechanical braking devices,usualy rim brakes or disc brakes. The drifting or fishing as you call it was obviously very well controlled at WSS as neither of the carts there left the track,I'm happy to be corrected if I'm in error here but every off,crash,prang involved your 3 main disciplines not the carts.

Hey Trikes, as is clearly written on the event poster there are 3 race divisions run in double elimination format if you are familiar with this format you will understand that this will require something in the order of 180 individual races. This is not a week long gravity festival, time does not permit for any more races nor any time trials. This is a closed rd outlaw event, we do not have a spare highway to use. What we are catering for first and foremost are our constituent events, if given time and safety permits we will allow other gravity sports to demonstrate but our area of racing is primarily lean-to-steer with no mechanical braking, this includes: downhill skateboard, street luge, buttboard, gravity bike, inline and slalom.

Billycarts have not been shafted by anybody, they are welcome to come along if the run is appropriate but we are not in the business of billycart racing. If you have booked a ticket and are pissed about billycarts not having a division then you should have looked more closely at the event details or asked the question sometime in the last month. Those that have asked have been told very clearly that there are only 3 divisions in this race and if we can demo something else we will.

Hi Robbo Very few billycarts these days weighin anywhere near 100kg. Most of them weigh in 53 to 65kg. But thats obviously not the issue here. The issue is there will be no tow vehicle from what I can surmise. Darn shame that. Tough job pushing a billycart back thru the scrub or carrying a luge. Obviously not a place to conduct a race meeting where the venue discriminates or the organisers don't or can't cater for all class's because of the vegitation. Perhaps an earlier call by yourself of race or no race would have been better. I hate putting my c"/k on the chopping block too. But sometimes it has to be done.
I had my Spirit ticket booked and non refundable deposit paid and was looking forward to being a surprise entrant. So Billycarts are shafted again (sigh). I'm not interested in walking thru the scrub. Getting too old for pushing billycarts, thats why I have a luge now.............trikes

I'm aware you have brakes on these carts, what I'm talking about is not a controlled brake but getting wide on a corner or fishing near the bales, its more about a hay bale being less likely to stop a 100+kg cart. This becomes relevant when the only viewing and marshaling spot available off-track is immediately behind these bales. At the WSS this was not the case as people were on the opposite side but this is unfortunately not possible at the pumpstation.

Re returning to the top of the hill - at the end of a race riders will remain at the bottom or move the short distance to the last corner this will be done walking along the edge of the bush. At the end of a round the 8 riders in the next group will move to the top and the riders from the last round will move to the corner. As Bugs said for safety reasons all riders will have to remain off-track and it is not an easy grass walk up the side as the bushland tends to run right to the edge of both sides of the track. This is necessary as the format is going to be very tight on time, unlike a time trial format we are unable to shorten it in the middle of the event, once we start we have to complete every race to get a result.

For those who need accommodation in the mountains, here's a couple of sites listing cheapish places in Katoomba:

* Lastminute.com.au
* Wotif.com

Re returning carts/luges/skateboards to the top of the hill - there is no vehicle access on the road, so it's all about walking. A lot of that walking will have to be off-track to ensure safety for the racers coming down.

G'day Robbo,our carts have more traction ,control and braking than most of the other 3 disciplines. I f a cart were to lose it at the critical point it would more likely be able to stop before hitting the bails than your other disciplines. As fo returning to the top how were you going to return the luges,I have seen them towed to the top the same as Billycarts and as long as the driver of the tow vehicle uses caution this a safe method of return to the start. In short our carts are more likely to not create a situation ofmass destruction or shock and awe except with their speed.

For the skaters there'll probably be more than 32, but that's OK cos I've got a 64-person double-elimination draw in the works. If there's more than 64 then we all have to give up and go home, victims of our own success. :)

Looks like there will be more than 32 racers colin??

probably more than the space station has ever seen! Could be useful for some housekeeping info also to preserve the goodwill of the mountain? like not blocking the observatory driveway, and the residents association dude mentioned cigarette butts didnt he? Mick? got some other key info? All riders need to buy Mick a beer (he drinks coopers)
