Phil is a good mate of mine who has been helping the SA scene.

We are going to do this.

...who is Phillip Thorn? One of the most enthusiastic guys here in my hometown.

Hello Everyone, I have been busy skating and organising today, here is a little message from Cliff Coleman. I hope you enjoy!
This is the charity that 50% of any excess will go to http://www.seva.org/ helping restore the sight of blind in some of the poorest regions in the world. The other 50% I want Australia to decide. If you have any ideas, post them!!!

Hi Buggs,

I checked the gudelines http://www.kickstarter.com/help/guidelines and charity vacation is prohbited :( Cliff suggested the Paypal technique which worked well in the UK for now I will run with it. Any other suggestions welcome.

And Robbo, Thanks for pointing out that it doesn't protect for sending money. I have removed this from facebook / ASRA. Payment made with a credit card via PayPal would provide you with an additional layer of protection via chargebacks.

Thanks Bugs, I will have a look at SPP and kickstarter. Have you ever done any projects this way before?

I did here about kickstarter but I also heard about the scams. I didn't really want to associate Cliff, Sergio or myself with scammers! I guess some will, some wont and some wait, thats fine by me. Also I forgot to mention in the spiel that any excess funds will go to charity.

Hi Robbo,

You will have to trust me to refund. I have a backup plan in case I get snubbed out between then and February. I am trusting my friend and fellow skate organiser Matty Leadfoot to organise refunds or take over in such an event or my wife.

I am Philip Thorn, I come from Taunton, Somerset, England, I met Cliff and Sergio in Falmouth. The meet inspired the tour together with all the skaters I have met so far in Australia. I currently live at 3 Hart St Semaphore South Australia 5019. My mobile is 0468670238. Please don't ring Monday to Friday 1-9.30 as I work for Internode Technical Support. My inside leg measurement is ... :)

We cant do a promotional tour because that involves complex Visas requirements. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said "a holiday".

Correct but that protocol and kickstarter are all done in escrow. That system is generally better for everybody as there is little risk for the people funding it so people are more likely to authorise funding. If Philip you hold peoples money and you don't follow through than you would need to get on the first boat out of OZ. PayPal only protects people from buying products, there is absolutely no protection for people sending money.

The funding model you're using is the street performer protocol. Perhaps Kickstarter would be a good implementation to use?
