yes, ben i am runing a carpark race and a peer judged slopestyle comp this summer, PEER JUDGED as in the guys who are competing in the event are also judging who is riding the best, i dont believe in anyone out side those competing having a say in the result of the event.
Personally dont agree with the idea of someone who is not involved being able to decide the outcome in skateboarding. i am running an event like this in early jan and i wont be going anywhere near this format because i can see it fucking up too easily, i wont race it either because it involves an outside call being made
peer judged means you have no ref ben, not having someone on the outside having the final say in the result, in skateboarding thats simply wrong if you ask me
ben, when the objective is to do as many laps as you can, hence the judge can fuck up and that fuck up can decide the outcome, i know it sounds full proof but it can go wrong easily
as i have said, i am running a carpark out law with the imput of quite a few guys, chinamans downhill is a clean cut decision with no ref, thus it works
yes i have bernie, something like that is most certainly on the cards for other components of the event that i am in the process of organising, i dont quite see how one would be of use in a carpark race other then if you where running heats and wanted to qualify racers. from a racing perspective and nothing else i think china mans downhill is best for carparks, unless you want to use the stairs and make it multi lap, which would add an interesting endurance element but would require an extra judge or what ever you feel like calling it up top, finishing wise a camera on the finish can take care of that as you can go back and go through frame by frame on the video and work out exactly who's wheels crossed first. Racing is an easy style event to judge as with a camera you can get a black and white result with no judging required, i am not the biggest fan of compedative skateboarding but it is the best way to grow the sport and i am trying to put on races/events that dont feel like races but actually are because it brings out the best riding and best vibe
Sean, I know you're trying to help the scene grow, but it doesn't seem like you're having fun with it, you seem to just be shouting at people and Sammy raises a good point, It's meant to be fun so keep it fun for both yourself and everyone involved.
yeah just to add on, i hope no one tries to say its more serious then fun, because i dont think any skater started out cos they wanted to be a world champion. everyone just chill, if some event does happen, who gives a shit if u time or if someone cheats, thats their problem we're just having a bit of fun!
hahahaha ohhhhh pussy ey? just cos i cant beat you man haha i agree with the no cheating aspect and shit, but i mean seriously which of the melbourne riders would cheat, and we'd find out easily anyway. i just dont the point in getting all arky about it thats all
true dat,
some of the best time of the last 5 years of my life have just been fucking around on shit slopes with good people, may as well keep it cool, no one cares who wins, just how we all skate so there aint no point in cheating
For Fun, you guys really need to hit Melton.
Hopefully it is not flooded yet.
Sean, keep doing what you are doing. more events of all sorts are needed.
See the point on carpark racing timing. China Bomb is probably the easiest to manage specially for outlaw events.
So last weekend i drove 1750km to race at the Pump Station and
finished 30th overall in CHC2010 and you guys are suggesting
No one cares who wins! WTF!
Yo bear i dont care who wins if its a fucking carpark race in melbourne which we are just doing for fun, but as i put in my last comment, if its something serious, such as Pump station then fuck yeah ill give a shit
look, i am talking about an outlaw i am working on.
Bernie and Wayne, you will both be happy to hear that in this mini series there will be a slalom race (maybe too, once i sus out this final event), which i am really looking forward to, its going to be head to head gate racing, the other may be skater cross as more of a 'come out and ride this setup' as opposed to a race but yes it might involve cones, it will involve pregrabbing or ollieing though
Congratz on placing so well Wayne, better than I could ever do!
Ching! i've noticed you've been skating lately, this is not allowed. you're a grown up now, go and earn money and count things. I honestly don't know what your job involves. So, counting it is.
hey guys, i have made an interesting find, there is a snake run about 6km from the top of mtn highway. just an idea for next time we head up there, maybe pack a park board
Dom. Stephen, Gilbert and Ching have Landy's. (I think G killed his? Or maybe i'm just making things up) I know Stephen loves his. You're best off getting something with finger and thumb pucks, your loaded thumbs have hell of a lot of wear on them so you'll burn through the landy's accidentally
dom if your looking at some new gloves i am currently in the process of getting a quote on some taylor made gloves that are 100% aussie made and should be comparable in price to the landys depending on what you want them made out of and what sort of protection you want
they are excellent if you can keep your fingers off the road. I find my fingers don't make enough contact to require a puck. You will definitely brush the road with ur fingers and thumb once in awhile, so just get a good amount of cloth tape around the fingertips and thumb to extend the life of your glove. Also, a BIG puck helps heaps. Look up Hamish for the best puck ever!
with regards to finger pucks gents, i have found that if the finger or thump pucks aren't the same depth as the palm puck, then they can often catch up on the road and send ur hand all sorts of places
