Proposed Constitutional Amendment

The current ASRA board proposes to amend the Constitution to allow for seven board members, instead of the current five.  This will be done by adding a treasurer and one committee member.  The amendments will be voted on as a single issue.

The proposed amendments are as follows:

1. Schedule 14(1)(b): delete and replace "2 ordinary members" with "3 ordinary members";

2. Schedule 14(2): amend to read as follows

"The office-bearers of the association are to be:

a) the president,

b) the vice-president,

c) the secretary, and

d) the treasurer"

3. Delete Schedule 16(4) and add a new Schedule 17 for the Treasurer to read as follows:

"The treasure must ensure:

a) that all money due to the association is collected and received and that all payments authorised by the association are made, and

b) that correct books and accounts are kept showing the financial affairs of the association, including full details of all receipts and expenditure connected with the activities of the association."

Nominations

Nominations for all board positions have been received and they are therefore elected unopposed.  As such, there will be no voting at the AGM.

ASRA needs people to:

  • manage the website,
  • maintain the rankings data base,
  • track the finances and membership subscriptions,
  • buy the insurance,
  • co-ordination of events,
  • keeping the rules up to date,
  • looking after the timing systems, equipment, and banners,
  • fronting media promotions,
  • talking to Federal, State and Local authorities,
  • and
  • representing You...the Australian Skateboard Racer!

Most of these tasks require just a few minutes each week, and some require an hour or so each month.
None of it is that hard, and you will gain some very useful experience!

Now that a talented new team is in harness, my shit-stirring job is done!

All of us now need to make sure that ASRA is able to continue, and that means each and everyone of us must support our new board and make sure that no one is allowed to "burn-out" from over-work.

All of us have to make our sport happen, and don't rely on a few to run events and lobby government.  Our new Board will be there to guide us, but we all need to make a much greater effort.

It also means making sure that the ASRA website becomes the single point of contact, and the trusted and true archive of important for events and results, and never again allow your history to be lost in the online sewerage outlet that is Facebook.

That means WE MUST put the events, and the results on the ASRA site before we copy anything to Facebook.  Because we will all need that sporting archive to be alive and complete for what will be happening with the Australian Sports Commission.

There is a big change happening to Skateboarding in Australia, and Skateboard Racing needs all of us to be ready to take our place at the table.  When the AOC calls for a team to represent Australia in the Olympics we must not allow any Roller-Skaters to stand in the way of us and our sport!

To the new Board, thanks for stepping up.

To those that have offered to be the State Reps, thanks for stepping up also.

To everyone that puts on events, participates in events, and posts the results of the events on the ASRA website, you are all a vitally important part of our sport!

And lastly to the outgoing board,  thanks for the years of dedication to making our sport great, you have left a valuable legacy, and built a sold foundation for future generations to build on!

Just a heads up to everyone that last-minute nominations were received, so all positions are now filled by default.

The nominees are:

President: James Hopkin

Vice-President: Tony Streets

Secretary: Bruce de Graaf

Treasurer: Haggy Strom

Committee Members x3

Jackson Shapiera

Michael English

Pete Smith

As Colin noted state reps and other positions will be filled later on as the new ASRA board irons out the future structure of ASRA.

The positions up for nomination/voting are:

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Committee members x 3

The deadline for nominations was today. Two were received, and those people are appointed to their nominated position without a vote. During the meeting we'll do another call for nominations, and if we get more nominations than there are positions then we'll do a vote.

There are currently no positions for state reps or grom reps, but the new incoming board might want to create some.

Hi Everybody

Good to see some discussion around the AGM.

A couple of things. I have discussed with the board members and for a couple of reasons we need to postpone the AGM.  Due to guys traveling and running around we have not been able to finalise a few things for the planned AGM on Sunday.  Amongst other things, getting the final members list together in time to follow the set timetable around the AGM set out in our constitution.

As such, here is the timetable for how things are going to happen between now and the AGM, which has been rescheduled for 3 May.  The timetable sets out things that will happen and actions which the current board members are taking between now and 3 May.

This is going to be a very important AGM for the future of ASRA and thus we think it's best to get it done right and this Sunday would be rushing it bit.

2015 AGM Plan for Sunday 3 May 2015
  • March 16-22  - Canvas interest for new board members to replace departing board members.  A great headstart has been made, as is obvious from below posts.  Lots of great candidates have put their name in the ring.
  • March 22 - Haggy and Colin finalising the ASRA member list to ensure it is current
  • March 26 - Email the nomination form to the suitable new board members.
  • April 5 - Draft final agenda for the AGM
  • April 12 - Send formal notification to members of AGM
    • Create an event on ASRA website
    • Send email to all members, containing time and date of AGM and the fact that it will be online, a link to the nomination form, instructions on how to nominate somebody, and what to do with the form after that.
    • Share event link on ASRA Facebook page
  • April 27 - Send email to all members. Email to contain:
    • Finalised list of nominations
    • Agenda
    • Reminder about the AGM:
      • time & date
      • instructions for how to tune in
      • instructions for how and when to vote.
  • April 30 - Test the online meeting software, and create a voting form.
  • May 1 - Open the voting
  • May 3 - AGM
    • Use Google Hangouts, just like the IDF AGM. This allows people to attend the meeting from wherever they are.
    • The meeting will automatically be published on Youtube.
    • Voting will finish at the conclusion of the meeting. There is no need for proxies because people will have 48 hours in which they can vote, and can do it from anywhere in the world.

Hopefully this makes sense.  Please go ahead and ask any questions you may have.  While I was quite keen to have the AGM this Sunday in order to get it done, we agreed to postpone and put the above timeline in place in order to ensure that the AGM runs smoothly and everyone knows exactly what will happen.
