Proposed Constitutional Amendment

The current ASRA board proposes to amend the Constitution to allow for seven board members, instead of the current five.  This will be done by adding a treasurer and one committee member.  The amendments will be voted on as a single issue.

The proposed amendments are as follows:

1. Schedule 14(1)(b): delete and replace "2 ordinary members" with "3 ordinary members";

2. Schedule 14(2): amend to read as follows

"The office-bearers of the association are to be:

a) the president,

b) the vice-president,

c) the secretary, and

d) the treasurer"

3. Delete Schedule 16(4) and add a new Schedule 17 for the Treasurer to read as follows:

"The treasure must ensure:

a) that all money due to the association is collected and received and that all payments authorised by the association are made, and

b) that correct books and accounts are kept showing the financial affairs of the association, including full details of all receipts and expenditure connected with the activities of the association."

Nominations

Nominations for all board positions have been received and they are therefore elected unopposed.  As such, there will be no voting at the AGM.

ASRA needs people to:

  • manage the website,
  • maintain the rankings data base,
  • track the finances and membership subscriptions,
  • buy the insurance,
  • co-ordination of events,
  • keeping the rules up to date,
  • looking after the timing systems, equipment, and banners,
  • fronting media promotions,
  • talking to Federal, State and Local authorities,
  • and
  • representing You...the Australian Skateboard Racer!

Most of these tasks require just a few minutes each week, and some require an hour or so each month.
None of it is that hard, and you will gain some very useful experience!

I'll get confirmation from Haggy. The board in the past has had 5 positions. Unless I am corrected, I believe all these positions are vacant. At the end of general business at the annual meeting, all positions are vacated. Board is made up of President, Vice-President, Treasurer and two members. If there are more nominees than positions, there is a ballot. All members are entitled to vote. A member is somone who has a paid membership not just registered on the website.

There is a bit of confusion regarding how to , and who can Vote ,,, How will the Voting take place on Sunday for the ASRA AGM , , Are members only voting for the 2 positions that are standing down.

I have been thinking about it for a few weeks. And I'm putting my name down for ASRA board nomination.

I have also been a consultant to the board in an unofficial way since ASRA started. I would like to formalise the work I do.

I think I would be a good link between the past and present. The past board and the new young guns coming in.

The most important thing and the one item I would base my work around is openness and transparency. I would like to see the work of the board be more open, that the board be more accountable, that board have short term and long term goals based on the community they represent. It is not that the board has to achieve them during their term, that they are working towards them, making progress, going forward.

ASRA needs to expand its structure to include states and not just a small national group

I would like be a link between the different stakeholders of the sport - skaters - competitors - skateshops - brands - distributors - event organisers - media - IDF

The website needs to be overhauled, I have experience in this area.

ASRA needs to have better links to the government both on a federal and state level. Both in policy making, representing the sport, and getting funding that is due to our sport.

ASRA has an awesome opportunity in merchandising.

ASRA needs to move away from its past of organising and running races. It should be an organisation that enables the community.

These are some of the things I would focus on.

hey guys Owen Davey self nominate for Canberra rep.

I have run loads of events in and around canberra and have been attending races for about 6 years now I've even done alright at a few of them, would really like to help build a proper national series of legit events.

I also may be one of the last DH longboarders in Canberra.

Hey i am Jayden Cook im 20 years old and i am self nominating myself for a position as a representative for Tasmania on the ASRA Board. I started skating downhill four years ago been racing three and am still going at it i have won three state titles in a row in Tasmania and looking at racing international next year and travel around Australia this year to hit some of the big events up there such as noosa and yarra . Although i have only been racing skateboard three years i have been racing things like motorbikes through TERC and helping out with events since i was 6 so i do have a fair idea of what it takes. i do know enough people to make stuff happen and with my determination cut throat attitude towards getting stuff done stuff will get done.

The main reason im going for this position is the passion and dedication i have to the sport and i really want to really help build the scene and make people more aware of downhill skateboarding/freeride and being safe whilst doing it which is daily goal for me in life. I am able to able to offer a lot of time to the sport i can flex hours around it to make sure stuff gets done, i do work but that isn't really a problem as the boss is leniant and i have talked to him about this.

Look forward to hearing back :) - KOOKY

I am self nominating for a position as a state rep for Tasmania.

I am 30 this year, I started skating at 10 and longboarding at 13 under the guidance of Ozone skate shop in Hobart as a grommet to Greg Phillips and Stephen Abell, I worked in the industry at Distro/Wholesale and Retail levels as well as being one of the Founding member of TasLB.

Many of you know I am also one of the organisers of KOTZ every year and try to organise a handful of events during the year.

I attempt to travel and get onto skatecations whenever the opportunity (and funds) allow because this has been a part of my life since I was a grommet.  I love the sport and have learned to enjoy the high as well as find good things about the low points in skating.

I have good connections within the community as well as external people who could and will be helpful in the future.

I do work intermittent and sometimes odd hours, but will arrange time to fit what needs to be done.

If I am not deemed a reasonable candidate for the State of Tasmania I would gladly put forward either Saxen Payne or Jayden Cook.

Self Nominating for a position as a state rep for Victoria,

I am 23, and have been active in the skate community since 2008, I worked in the industry for a couple of years and have helped organize plenty of events.
I have participated in a lot of large O/S events and have always had interest in their running's, I love the sport and have enjoyed seeing its growth over the time of my involvement.

I have already made a large amount of connections with people who are able to help bring back a organised and formatted event calender here in Victoria and am able to help out interstate where needs be.

I do work full time, but will be able to shuffle when needs be, whether it meetings, heavy load times preparing for events or running events themselves.
Ontop of that, we have a very involved group that are dedicated to seeing the scene grow in a health  way, who are willing to put the time in when needs be and i will be able to liaison with them to make shit happen....yo

AGM Agenda Item:   ASRA Rankings

As Colin knows, it is a complete waste of time trying to deal with ASRA results when the names of the riders are obtained by event organisers without any regard for correct and consistent spelling, and worse when event organisers take no care of the results after the event.

And it is also a great loss to ASRA in having archival news of the sport lost to social media, specially when we want to make representations to governments and councils.

So can I suggest the tabling following rules in relation to awarding ASRA points to riders.

To qualify for ASRA points:

1)                   Events must be posted on ASRA, then linked to social media, 30 days prior to an event.

2)                  At the completion of an event a list of the results must be posted on the event page within 7 days of the completion of the event, along with a short report (say 50 – 100 words) and at least one “race” photo and one “podium” photo:

The results must be in the following format, including comma’s:
Rank, 1stName, Surname, ASRA membership number or country of origin for guests, Time,

EG:
Results:
Name of Event – Date event.
Place,1stName,Surname,ASRA#,Time
1, Paul, Shaddock, 134, 12.863
2, Nathan, Paff, 64,12.937
3, Paul, Price, UK,13.011
4, Haggy, Strom, 3,13.203
5, Simon, Duber, 14,13.366
6, Paul, Carey, 12,13.467

(this “csv” format makes it easy to load into the rankings system)

3)                  Attach available race worksheets to the report post.
(picture or “pdf” of hand-written race sheets, or excel/ods worksheets)
( like this post http://www.skateboardracing.org.au/events/national-capital-slalom-c...)

4)                  Events that do not comply with the reporting requirements above will not be allocated any points.

5)                  Riders will be required to direct any complaints in relation to non-compliance with rules 1-3 to the event organiser.

6)                  Late results will be accepted only at the absolute discretion of the ASRA chief steward for each racing discipline, and may incur a fee (slab of cans?) to be determined by the ASRA board.
