Final question for this thing hopefully, what do you reckon about chick's who skate? Do you reckon they are welcome, do you wish they didn't and why do you reckon skating is a male dominated sport?

I've never seen a single girl skater in Canberra.
Your either blind or looking in the wrong place.

Heaps good guys, if you have any chicks on here that you're friends with try and get them to reply to this as well thanks.

PC, go easy on Jack, he is still young.

Jack,

To spot a Girl Skater, you just need remember what Beet told you.

"girls.. there the ones at school that dont play footy, got bumps on thar chests"

I'm probably looking in the wrong Place then for I am not blind
beany's too lazy to reply to this ,lazy = too busy skating

Chicks who skate are awesome =P as for being welcome, yes we are for the most part, but there is a lot of "OMG its a chick who skates *drool*" and it can be a little off putting, but the thing i hate is from guys who see me skate by and make misogynistic jokes or jokes about how i should be wearing a skirt or i'm a guy, which sucks. As for why its male dominated, well its often out of a lot of girls comfort zones to do something that can be seen as "stupid" or "risky" whereas a lot of males [no offense] are known for doing stupid things =P and often not wanting to fuck up or be the one making people wait, when they're learning, is a hard thing to get over.

^^ just some stuff from various female friends of mine who skate with me =) hope it helps.

My girlfriend is just afraid of getting hurt.  Guys are stupid and don't think about getting hurt!
im with you mate. got my wife to skate and she loves it,just rolling and getting stoked, her first carve she had a smile that was so wiked to see. she does use a big stick and she is getting even hotter than before ....yum babe. must say that big stick and hills equals bigger carves than i have ever thought possible, plus it stops junkies asking me for coin.... damn i love to skate with her and i get to buy more toys, win win and score. skate hard and have agreat day all

Hey Reg. Having skated for past 37 years & being a fathers of 2 girls who skateboard.

I have always thought highly of & encouraged girls who skate. It shows their ambitious, adventurous, have confidence in themselves & that their not intimidated by negative attitudes of others. Even more their enjoying the sensation of rolling, turning, gliding & sliding through space on a skateboard. Plus all the other great things that skating brings you.

Some of the things that deter people (male & female) from riding skateboards is the fear factor, risk of injury, physical ability & being criticised by other users.

It is also a fact that males are known to take mose risks in the activities they are involved in. This is a big factor in skateboarding having more male partisipants in the sport.

Then there are some males who feel threatened when there are females in their male dominated arena. This can stop many girls from skating. Negative vibes & overblown egos can turn you off anything in life. Hopefully that old way of thinking is on the way out.

As for the word 'dominate'. There are heaps of girls all over the world that skate better than alot of males. But I guess your talking numbers here ?

I think the more girls who get involved & enjoy skateboarding, the better of the sport will be in the future.

Who wants to hang out with a bunch of  smelly males all the time anyway. Not me.
