Australian Slalom Nationals 2008

The Australian Nationals featured incredibly close racing, with Steve Daddow continuing his run of beating Haggy Strom in the Nationals. Jackson Shapiera posted some very fast times and looked a real threat, but cruelled his chances by twice DQ'ing in the later rounds.

Conehead Cup 2007 - Final Results

The final count, complete with sister-kissing ties and slash-your-wrist one-point winners and losers.

What can I say? Without doubt the best slalom race series ever held in Australia this century! Thanks to everybody who came along and was part of it - definitely history in the making.

Paul Carey takes 3rd place:…

Conehead Cup 2007, Race 5, Blacktown

In my opinion, that was the best course of the series (and I didn't even set it - credit for that goes to Mick Mulhall, with help from Haggy). It was easily the fastest race of the series, and nearly everybody was a little intimidated by the speed and the gnarly run-out. But I hope those sorts of speeds are the future of slalom here - its such an adrenaline rush to skate, and the people watching got a real sense of… Click here for the full story

Conehead Cup 2007, Race 4, San Remo

Technical troubles with the timing system meant this race had to be converted from a dual-lane elimination to a single-lane jam session.

In the end the results had a familiar look, with Haggy, Steve and Paul taking the spots on the podium.

Conehead Cup 2007, Race 3, Canberra

Hi folks, I'm back in Sydney after spending a night in a Canberra hospital with a fractured sternum and suspected heart damage! Eventually the doctors ruled out any damage to the heart, but it was a bit of a freak-out.

The head-to-head racing was awesome - it was really exciting to watch, and I think led to a couple of people (me being one of them) trying a bit too hard to get to the finish line too quickly.

It's amazing how… Click here for the full story

Conehead Cup 2007, Race 1, Cam's Jam

The 2007 Conehead Cup kicked off in great style with 29 riders from around Australia making it a truly national event.

It was a tough course, with plenty of riders spraying cones everywhere, but Haggy Strom was able to pip Steve Daddow with his last run of the day, despite suffering from the flu.

After the slalom a wild variety of events took place - luge, hill bombing, and the crowd favourite - high jump.

But the event…

SOS King of the Kones

The first day of the 3-day Sydney Old School (SOS) Jam kicked off with slalom at Allawah. Twenty-seven riders entered and the folks from Melbourne and Canberra really stepped up, but it was Paul Carey from NACCOSS who stole the show.

Enormous credit and thanks go to Johnny Fox, Greg Ambler,… Click here for the full story

Allawah Slalom Jam, October 22 2006

As Chris M noted, our races are starting to look very pro. Not only do we have a timing system, we now have a portable start ramp courtesy of the BTS workshop.

And the times are getting closer. Congrats to Haggy for staying ahead of the pack, but that pack is getting very crowded and is slowly starting to catch up.

Thanks again to Mountain Mick for arriving early and sweeping the course, to Mick Mulhall for repairing the timing system (that he broke), and to…

Allawah Slalom Jam, October 8 2006

The story of the day was WIND - a howling gale that made some runs blisteringly fast, and others like swimming through molasses. Mick Mulhall offended the slalom gods and went down early - heal up dude!

Today was also the race christening of the BTS start ramp - a great addition.

Very close times across the top four.

Allawah Slalom Jam, September 16 2006

Our "first-Sunday-of-the-month" rule has suffered a bit lately due to conflicting schedules and a sentiment that once a month 'aint enough, so a few of us found ourselves racing on a Saturday in the middle of the month. Why not?

Again the dual was between second and third, with the last run of the day settling the score. Many thanks to Mountain Mick for sweeping the course early, and congrats to Josh for making the course for the first time and then jumping for…

San Remo Slalom Jam, August 19 2006

The NACCOSS boys had been hyping up their super slalom venue at San Remo, just a short distance from the bowl, and a trip up the F3 was in order.

And what a fantastic spot! Super-smooth, with a decent pitch, lots of width, and a shoe-saving run out. The NACCOSS locals were out in force and the day had a real picnic/gala atmosphere.

Allawah Slalom Jam, April 30 2006

A tough course was set in anticipation of the steep and gnarly hill at Bangalow, the site of the upcoming National titles. There were a lot of nervous faces after trying to make the big offsets on the fastest part of the course, but in the end just about everybody figured out the line to take, and started running the course clean.

P5 Dual Hybrid Slalom, March 18 2006

Our first ever dual-lane race took place on an ominously cloudy day in the wide-open spaces of P5—the largest and most distant carpark at the Sydney Olympic complex.

Before the serious head-to-head stuff started we held a qualifying jam session to determine the seedings for the elimination rounds. Paul Price had the fastest time and went in as first seed.

But by the time the elimination rounds began, fitness was becoming a factor.… Click here for the full story
