Hi everyone, just a quick update on Slalom skateboarding in Australia. Bernie Griffiths has stepped down from his ISSA role as Senior Steward for Australian Slalom and I have taken on this role. First up a huge thanks to Bernie who has run the slalom rankings for many years now, for your efforts over that time, we would not have a National Ranking for more than the last decade without Bernie.

Dan Monaghan and Imi McMillan are both now registered as Organisers with ISSA. This means they can organise and run the International 25 Cone Races. It is unclear what roles ASRA will have for slalom as the AGM has not taken place. If anyone is interested in being a more active member of ASRA in relation to slalom please speak to Duddy or Imi. They have both nominated for ASRA board positions. Historically we’ve always run directly with ISSA and used ASRA as the required registered Australian association to run the official points ranking.

ASRA has not been directly involved for many years with slalom events or provided any support to local slalom events other than the website to host the event listings and rankings. We hope this can change going forward and ASRA can once again be more involved in helping run more events in Australia, for slalom and the other disciplines of skateboard racing under their umbrella. Slalom is growing faster than any other discipline in the last few years and the 23/24 season has had 7 races across 2 events with 1 more event to go!

This brings me to the points rankings and running slalom events in Australia. It is compulsory to advertise the event on the site of the national skateboarding body (being ASRA) 30 days before the events to receive National or International ranking points. This is to document events, results and rankings on the website of the national sporting association, which in turn assures that it has a voice backed up by its own history and data, so that we meet the criteria for Skate Australia to accept team nominations put forward by ASRA.

This was not done last year for the NACCOS event, however the expectation from organisers and racers was that the event would have points for national rankings. The event was advertised on Facebook on the main Australian slalom group, which has more slalom people looking at it than the ASRA site, so very few if anybody in the community missed out on knowing it was happening.

With that in mind, we have decided to include Category 6 points for the Hybrid and Tight, and Category 5 for the GS. The events were very well run, well attended with interstate riders, and was a lot of effort from NACCOS for the first big event outside the Nationals for many years, we think it is fair that it should get points.

This will change the outcome of the current national rankings which are only based on the Canberra Nationals event at this stage. The riders affected by it knew the NACCOS event was happening well in advance and also expected it to have points as it was announced as such.

Because ASRA has very low activity these days and the Slalom groups and pages on social media generally have more activity the recommendation for future events is to ensure it is on ASRA for points, promotion to potential sponsors, official records for peak sporting bodies and government, but also promote across as many other online channels as possible for maximum exposure to competitors and spectators.

The upcoming Millsy’s GS event (date to be confirmed) will be added to the ASRA site when and will qualify for points.

We also had a tight slalom race at the Nationals, there were several issues with this race:

It was not officially announced as part of the ASRA and other promotional listings

I made an announcement that we would try and run a tight course, and that was done on the day after the main event

People put in a decent effort to set the course and some believed it was eligible for points

Others believed it was a fun race at the end of proceedings and didn’t take it seriously

Times and DQ’s were not recorded properly

No official riders meeting or practice runs

Because there is confusion, and because not all of these issues above are defined in the rules of slalom, and it won’t affect overall rankings, it has been included as a Category 5 race.

Please contact me by private message or phone if you have any issues with these decisions on rankings. The ISSA representatives have discussed it and agreed, and the points have been added to the ranking.

The national ranking will be used as one of the criteria for the World Skate Games qualification. We are also working on some things that will make this process and running events more transparent with a clear set of rules and definitions, and a structure where decisions can be made fairly and without any perception of bias. We don’t want a self appointed group of just the ISSA registered people making all the decisions, we now need others to step up and take an active role in agreeing to rules, and taking an active role governing your sport.

I am working on:

Forming a slalom committee with representatives from the different regions

The role of official ISSA organisers and Stewards being transparent and consultative through this committee

More accurately defining what constitutes a points ranking race in Australia and ensuring slalom committee agreement, and awareness with event organisers

Defining selection criteria for attendance at world events offering places based on national selections with involvement from the slalom committee

As an aside, the 25-cone race which ran adjacent to the hybrid at Nationals is an ISSA developed event that allows registered countries, over a 3-day window to compete and register their times. We’re currently awaiting the 2024-2025 dates to be released, it’s a good way to have more local low key races and events. This series does not count in the national ranking points because it is an international series.

Finally, I am new to this, it’s a bit different to just helping run the Nationals event so Bernie will continue to help me in the transition, and event organisers keep in touch to ensure we’re properly set up for races and rankings. I welcome any feedback and we will be asking for feedback as we develop the things I’ve mentioned above.
ASRA AGM 2024tag:www.skateboardracing.org.au,2023-12-03:2144162:BlogPost:11028662023-12-03T00:24:54.000ZMax Heatonhttp://www.skateboardracing.org.au/profile/Maxheaton622

After days in the blistering heat at Punta Negra, the time had finally come for our Downhill Skateboarders to begin the 4 man racing. 6 of our country's best, ready to take on the world at the beautiful Punta Negra racetrack. Qualifying had been completed the day prior and 64 of the world's best would battle it out across 5 rounds of racing.

All of the boys had challenging heats up first, but the determination was there and they were ready to cross the finish line first.

A play-by-play breakdown follows, Hopkin and I have a plan to commentate each heat that the Australians have, but if you can't wait, read the below.

Jaydon Howarth had a challenging first heat up against Nick Broms, David Chanco and Joan Suarez. Jayden managed to stay hot on the tail of Chanco who was in second place behind Nick Broms throughout the first corner. Chanco, unfortunately, hit the haybales on the exit of corner one, letting Jaydon slip right behind Nick Broms. Jaydon managed to hold second place for the remainder of the heat, crossing the line behind Broms and earning himself a place in round 2.

Zane had heat 4 of Round 1 up against Adrien Paynel, Clayton Arthurs and Andrea Moreni.
Zane looked strong on the push but no rider was a match for Frenchy, who was pushing hard for someone who is fresh off an ankle injury. Zane slipped into third place before corner 1 and was almost touching Clayton throughout the turn. Zanes battle for second place continued through corner 3 and down the ‘straight’, getting closer and closer to Clayton in 3rd place. He tucked hard and stayed solid over the bridge and managed to get Clayton just at the finish line, earning himself a second place in his first heat and progressing to the second round of racing.

Harry Clarke had heat 8 of Round 1 up against Chase Hiller, Stephen Davis and Wilder Mendoza. Harry has an angry push and it certainly helped him in his first heat against some big names. Chase was no exception, staying hot on harry’s tail. Too much breaking before corner 3 seemed to have slowed Chase down, and he was really asking for some draft off of Harry. The two split to wide sides of the road before the bridge, however, Harry managed to hold onto the first place position by winning the heat. The battle between Harry and Chase was to continue in round 3 of racing later in the day.

Zak Mills-Goodwin had heat 9 of round 1 up against Bernardo Landelli, Nathaniel Chappelle and Anderson Maldonado. Zak looked seemingly comfortable on the start line as usual, but a false start gave him 1 penalty notice before his first heat was to kick off. The riders readjusted and reset themselves for their heat to begin. Zak continued his rather relaxed look and didn't push as hard as other riders in his heat, even standing up behind two riders before corner 1. It was all part of his plan, as zak took a beautiful inside line and exited corner 1 and entered corner 2 in second place. Zak managed to dodge the first-place rider falling directly infront of him, managing to sneak his way into first place. After corner 3 and into the straight, it was all over. Zaks tuck shot him further away from second and third place and his tuck held solid over the cracks of the bridge, earning himself 1st place and advancing to the second round of racing.

Davis Lanham had heat 13 of Round 1 up against Dexter Manning, Alessandro Federico and Zeid Rivera Tejeda.
Davis had by far the strongest push in his heat, even getting into tuck before the other three riders in his heat. His line through corner 1 shot him ahead of each rider, battling it out to catch Davis. Davis looked particularly solid through corner 3 and was travelling fast down the straight on his way to first place. Alessandro Federico managed to get second place behind davis, beating Canadian favourite Dexter Manning in the process.

Mitch Thompson had heat 14 of Round 1 up against Adriano Volpe, Oscar Benitez Gutiermo and Luis Vidal Gonzalez.
Like Davis, Mitty was proving himself as early as the start line with his mean push. His line into Corner 1 was solid, however he had riders closely following and hot on his tail. His lines were just too good, with second place following his every move. There seemed to be a battle down the straight for second and third place behind Mitty, yet after holding off each rider the entire way and staying solid over the bridge, Oscar Benitez Gutiermo managed to snag first place with Adriano Volpe only a hair behind in third place. Mitty’s second place progressed him to round 2 of racing, where he will meet fellow Australian Davis Lanham. Time to work together.

Jaydon Howarth had heat 1 of Round 2 up against Nick Broms, Nicolas Walman and Callum Mathieson.
A false start by Callum Mathieson had definitely played with the riders heads before this stacked heat. Nick Broms was out in front with a monster push, with Jaydon following in second place looking solid through corner 1 and 2. Callum exited corner 2 with a tight line, overtaking Jaydon for second place. The two stayed tight down the entire straight, with Jaydon tucking hard and staying right behind callum trying to get some draft. Callum cut in at the last second in front of Jaydon, clipping his wheels and causing both riders to crash in the final corner. A head injury to Jaydon caused him to jump the hay bales and not complete the run, ending with a 4th place finish behind Callum Mathieson, Nicolas Walman and Nick Broms. Congratulations Jaydon for your efforts throughout your racing. You did your friends, family and country proud.

Zane Bonser had Heat 2 of Round 2 up against Adrien Paynel, Yanis Markarian and Daniel Minsky.
This could be a finals heat. Zane on the line against Yanis, Frenchy and Minsky. All 4 riders gave it their all on the start line, entering corner 1 in single file. Minsky in the lead, with each rider staying hot in their draft through corner 2 and corner 3. Zane stayed solid down the whole straight, with some rubbing between Yanis and Frenchy more than likely giving him a fright in his tuck. He stayed solid over the bridge and finished with a 4th place finish behind some world-class riders. Congratulations to Zane for your top-level racing across the week and proving that we Aussies are a force to be reckoned with. You should be proud of yourself, as we all are and it was extra special to have your parents in the crowd cheering you on.

Harry Clarke had Heat 4 of Round 2 up against CHase Hiller, Duke Pandeagua and Bruno Spengler.
With his mirrored visor on the start line, Harry was ready to give it his all in his second round of racing. Coming off of Round 1 with Chase Hiller, Harry wanted to get ahead and get ahead fast. His push brought him to first place which he held through the first three corners, with Bruno Spengler only feet behind him. Chase managed to creep up beside Bruno, and before they knew it as did Duke from the Philippines. It was three riders wide behind Harry approaching the bridge and the final turn. Just like Round 1, Chase crossed the line behind Harry Clarke and both riders continued down the tree with their placings earning themselves a spot in the Quarter-finals.

Zak Mills-Goodwin had Heat 5 of Round 2 up against Bernardo Landelli, Yan Bertinati and Santiago Martin.
With the live stream showing good luck gestures between the riders and a little dance from Zak, all who know him know he means business once that start line buzzer goes off. Sometimes that buzzer takes extra long to go off, and Zak was eager to get going. A false start may have put Zak off a little but once the riders reset and the start buzzer went off, Zak was back in race mode. He had a strong push, yet entered corner one in second place. That quickly changed, as he exited corner one with enough speed to have him neck and neck with Yan Bertinati. Both riders rubbed shoulders quite aggressively, but not enough to knock them off their boards. Zak had a better line through corner 2 and exited in first place, to what would seem was him plummeting down into corner 3. Zak was ahead, and by a lot. So it was a battle between Yan and Santiago for second place. Zak remained solid throught the straight, over the cracks of the bridge and around the final corner, crossing the finish line first with a large gap on the other riders.

Davis and Mitch met each other in Heat 7 of Round 2 with Alessandro Federico and Oscar Benitez Gutiermo.
With a big crash in heat 6 of round 1, the crowd were going crazy in the grandstands of the final corner. This meant that excitement was high for Davis and Mitch’s heat up against Alessandro and Oscar. The green and gold suits must have gotten in the heads of the non-australian riders, as Mitty and Davis were too strong on the push, leading first and second place into corner 1. A position change between Mitty and Davis had Davis enter corner 2 in first place, with both Australian riders tucking hard into corner 3. Mitty hot on Davis’ tail, both boys were extra solid and crossed the line 1 and 2, blocking out Alessandro and Oscar and earning themselves a spot in the quarter-finals. Nothing like racing your friends, right?

Harry Clarke made it to Quarter final B and went up against Diego Poncelet, Owen Fox and Chase Hiller.
This honestly could have been a final heat. 4 Stacked names up against each other. A previous world champion and Diego, a newly announced WDSC Champion. CHase Hiller and Owen Fox. The feeling in the crowd for this heat was something you just had to experience. All 4 boys were pushing as hard as they could to get the leading position into corner one. Luckily for Haz, he managed to hold it with Chase hot on his tail for a third heat in a row. With quite a gap on the 3rd and 4th place, Chase and Harry seemed to shoot away into corner 3. Harry was head down and arms back down the straight, tucking hard trying to fight off the riders behind him, Diego managed to find some draft and chase harry down, overtaking him on one of the kinks of the straight. Owen was getting close to Harry over the bridge, but it was Chase who was victorious in hunting Harry down, getting Harry with what seemed like millimeters right on the line. Congratulations to Harry for a stellar effort and displaying high-quality racing all week at the World Skate Games. You have done all of us proud.

Zak Mills Goodwin made it to Quarter final C against Yan Bertinati, Bernardo Brambila and Josh Evans.
On the start line with fellow Australian/Kiwi Josh Evans, the excitement was high for this Quarter final heat. Bernardo Brambila managed to get out in front with a fierce push for corner 1, yet that didn't hold our Zak back from holding a perfect line through corner 1, providing him with the opportunity to go into corner 2 side by side Brambila and overtake him after corner 2. Like his earlier heats, Zak somehow managed to shoot himself away from the riders, leaving Josh Evans in a tough battle down the straight. Josh almost managed to get Brambila before the bridge but some wobbles hindered his chances of overtaking Brambila.

Davis and Mitch progressed onto quarter final D against Dane Hanna and Maxwell Capps
Two aussies in a stacked quarter final heat. Mad scientist Max Capps and CHTFSU Canadian Dane Hanna up against our Aussie boys Davis and Mitch. Davis had the strongest push on the start line, setting himself up comfortably in first place through corner 1. Mitty seemed to break a touch before corner 1, which let Max Capps creep up closer and eventually ended up making contact with Mitch through the corner, and pushing Mitch out to the haybales. From here on it was up to Davis to cross the line for Australia. He stayed solid through corner 2 and 3, and rode side by side Dane for much of the straight. Max Capps ended up creeping up and taking the final corner infront of Davis and Dane, however a successful protest against his actions earlier in the hear had Max Capps disqualified and Davis getting second place, moving into the Semi FInals alongside fellow Aussie Zak Mills-Goodwin.

Semi Final B
Zak Mills-Goodwin, Davis Lanham, Dane Hanna and Bernardo Brambila
Davis had a strong push, but it wasn't strong enough to get in front of Brambila for corner 1. Zak stayed back, scaring the fellow Aussies at the track and watching at home but it was all part of his plan of attack. Zak overtook Dane Hanna through corner 1 and was hot on Davis’s Tail for corner 3. Zak had some great exit speed and managed to get into first place after corner 2, leaving Davis in third battling behind Brambila. Dane was too quick and took the inside line on Davis through corner three, leaving him in 4th place staring down the straight behind all 3 other riders.. Zak seemed to be miles ahead again, with the crowd going crazy questioning how he does it. He crossed the bridge solid with Dane not far behind, however Brambila and Davis wobbled over the bridge cracks and ended up taking a tumble, both riders hitting the haybales. Zak crossed the line first, Dane second, with Brambila managing to push across the line for 3rd place leaving 4th for Davis. Davis sustained an injury in his Semi Final heat and decided to sit out for the Consi finals, earning himself an overall placing of 8th place. Congratulations to Davis, who battled some world-class riders including our very own Mitch Thompson and Zak Mills-Goodwin. Your strength on the track is to be commended and you did your friends, family and country proud with your racing.

Final Heat
Zak Mills-Goodwin up against Nick Broms, Diego Poncelet and Dane Hanna.
What a final heat. Nick Broms being a Junior World Champ, Dane Hanna being the previous World Roller Games Champion and Diego being the nelly crowned WDSC World champion, it was still all eyes on everyone's favourite skater and unstoppable Aussie, Zak Mills-Goodwin. With the live stream now showing what seemed to be a ghost town at the top of the track, it was down to these final four riders to show the world what they are made of. The grandstand on the final corner had a feeling like never before. FInals heats are always exciting, but the way this race was positioned had riders from around the world losing their minds at Punta Negra, and of course the same for the people at home watching on the live stream. All four riders pushed their heart out the get pole position for corner one. Dane Hanna had some last-second airbreaking which allowed American Nick Broms to enter corner 1 first, with Diego in third place followed by our very own Zak just inches behind in 4th place. All 4 riders entered corner 2 in single file, with Diego saying a brief hello to Dane on the exit of corner 2. It wasnt long before all 4 riders slipped back into their single file line and prepared for corner three. Zak was breathing down Diegos neck for the beginning of the straight, and managed to get close to Nick and Dane before the bridge. Zak had the speed from the other riders draft and took a wide line before the bridge in the hopes he could hold his speed and line to get the boys at the line. Nick Broms was directly in front of Zak, and both boys slipped out after a wobble over the cracks of the bridge ultimately coming off their boards towards the hay bales. Whilst Nick was very clearly already falling, Zak’s hand also came in contact with Broms ankle/board during the stack which would alter any protests if they were to arise. Zak managed to fracture his nose in the process of the fall, however, both Nick Broms and Zak Mills-Goodwin were able to locate their boards and finish the heat. Congratulations to Dane Hanna for his first-place finish against the world's best. Diego stayed solid and crossed the line second for second place, with Nick finishing in 3rd place and Australia’s own Zak Mills-Goodwin finishing with 4th place. Congratulations to all the riders for their efforts at the World Skate Games, and a massive congratulations to Zak Mills-Goodwin for his incredible racing and earning himself 4th place at the World Skate Games.

Q4 Community Updatetag:www.skateboardracing.org.au,2022-11-22:2144162:BlogPost:11006892022-11-22T09:13:28.000ZMax Heatonhttp://www.skateboardracing.org.au/profile/Maxheaton622

To All,

I have yet to do this, and will begin quarterly updates so membership have a continual view of where we're at.

We've had a few quiet years all thanks to a pandemic, and it's been an amazing year back in 2022 seeing the disciplines in Australia thrive.

ASRA recently put together the Australian gravity team for World Skate Games in Argentina and to no surprise we had some unbelievable success, once again being the only portion of the Australian contingent to win a medal and to have multiple athletes qualify in the Top 10 of their respective disciplines.

For the first time in WSG we had the opportunity to field a Slalom team, all of which surprised me to no end. The teams collective positivity and willingness to go the extra mile at the games was awesome to see. Slalom is still an integral part at ASRA, and I am here 24/7 to assist anything Slalom related. I hope that seeing fellow Aussies duke it out against the worlds best, it can re-energise the discpline and we can start to really drive it. It is my wish that all future ASRA events will have Slalom included to some capacity, as in the past it has gone regrettably neglected.

At the request of Skate Australia we have undertaken the responsibility to govern the Downhill Inline discipline and this has me stoked to see where we can take it. Previously we had Luke Webb represent us in Barcelona, and this year we had the pleasure of welcoming Greg Casey into the fold. Greg had never been to a race before, and as far as I'm aware hadn't been out of country. Greg was a ray of stoke the whole event, improving on every run, and soaking in what can be achieved in the disicpline. Nothing to stoke the fire like a World Championship...

ASRA Board Working Update:
It's been quiet, as I said before, but we are slowly picking up where we left off and I'm pleased to deliver some information.

- We have begun rankings updates for 2015-2022. This is no small task, and finding results from races in years gone is proving difficult so we're starting "top-down" so to speak. International rankings will be our primary focus, and now points will be awarded to racers that compete overseas. This means that if you go to a race anywhere in the world, we will take into account your placing. I ask that if you held a race between the years of 2015 and 2022 that you send the results to: president@skateboardracing.org.au so we can include these. Races as small as 16-mans can be used, as we use a sliding points scale depending on classification of events.

- We, alongside Hopkin, are looking to bring the World Championship back to Aus, in the form of everyones beloved event, Newtons. Yes, it's coming back, when you ask? We're about to find out but expect more information to follow.

- We are also looking at bringing the Australian Nationals to the sunshine state, with Mt Coot-tha being our desired venue. We are just beginning talks with Council and will update you all when this kicks off. Expect these events to be in the back half of the year.

- We are trying to nail down a date for the AGM, we're a little late but will have this locked in shortly. As ASRA is always in need to people with some spare hours up their sleeve, I strongly recommend you reach out to the team as any assistance is immensely appreciated. If you think you can do a better job within the association, I welcome any and all applications when we open the AGM up. ASRA needs workers, who are genuine about the commitment to our array of disciplines. We need representatives involved with Slalom and Inline especially.

- We continue to work alongside Skate Australia, as our relationship and affiliation with the organisation is imperative to the continuation of our racing community. Skate Australia have been nothing but helpful and positive towards our Board, and we're hoping in the next 12 months to form a more permanent working relationship with them.

My phone and email is always pinging, and I would love to hear from the community and anyone looking to provide ASRA with assistance. We're on the hunt now for a capable web-developer who would be willing to help the association migrate away from here, to an updated site.

Cheers,

Words from Jack Meyn - Australian Team Manager

The Giant Slalom day. An exciting day, and a much-anticipated day of skateboarding particularly for GS connoisseurs like Ryan Nichols and Paul Shaddock. The final day of the Slalom competition brought us to a new location, Dique Punta Negra. A smooth, winding road next to the Punta Negra Dam. Punta Negra is also the location for Downhill Skateboarding, Street Luge and Downhill Inline competitions taking place on the 7-12th November. There was a lot of discussion in worldwide slalom group chats surrounding the length of the Giant Slalom course the night prior to the competition. Most riders were asking for it to be a long course, and some hoping for it to be short (and slower!). It seemed not even the organisers knew the exact length of the course.

Upon arrival at Dique Punta Negra, the track marshals and organisers were still setting up the course. Aussie Spirit shined bright once again as team manager and team coach Jack Meyn and Neil Duddy helped to add protection to the course and set up tents for countries to have shade for the day. The only issue being the start ramps positioned just above halfway of the straight at the Punta Negra track. After discussion with other riders, team staff addressed the organisers and expressed their concern about the lack of quality for what was to be a World level competition. There was simply too much smooth, straight, unused road behind the start ramps, causing the course to be shorter than expected for a lot of riders. The organisers agreed to move the ramps back. This was beneficial for the Australian team who wanted to taste speed on their final day of competition. Although the organisers didn't use the entire straight of Punta Negra, our riders were happy to have more racetrack to play with.

While the track marshals continued setting up, it was time for some final setup changes. Ish made some crucial bushings changes to her setup, whilst Imi opted for an entirely different deck to what she had skated on in the previous days, however remaining on her Fitzy trucks. Ryan, Paul and Nathan had spent hours the night before chopping and changing decks, trucks and bushings. It was great to see the entire team, including staff, provide feedback and help get the setups feeling great before the practice runs started.

Event organisers were kind enough to ask Team Australia manager and coach, Jack Meyn and Neil Duddy if they would like to be ‘freerunners’, offering the opportunity to ride the course to test timing systems, track quality and fill in time between timed events on the live stream. After days of watching slalom from the sidelines, of course, they stepped up and did their job.

This meant that there were 7 Australian skaters on the track. We also had our fellow ANZAC Api Ihaia from NZ to discuss the track and different techniques to possibly use. After the first run, everyone was stoked. Particularly Imi, who had some first-run nerves before taking her first run. Just like we all knew, she got through the course with speed, style and grace and didn't hit or miss a cone.

After 3 practice runs, it was time to begin the timed heats. Women first, and Imi being the first Aussie to step up onto the ramp and put a time down. By this point, not only did the girls have the Aus team cheering, but the majority of the competitors were encouraging the girls up on the start ramp. Something about that supportive Aussie spirit right? Much like her practice runs, Imi was smooth sailing down through the finish line after a clean run with a time of 34.450. The same head-to-head format was used for GS however there was not a dual course, with riders skating the exact same course and comparing times to their opponent on the spreadsheet.

Ish up next, who had only stepped foot (or rolled wheels) on a GS course once before. She showed no hesitation and got right into it, even getting low into a semi-tuck whilst weaving through the cones to a clean run through the finish line. Her timed opponent was young Maggie Harrison from the USA, who Ish managed to cross the GS finish line an entire 1.005 seconds faster.

For the men’s, Ryan Nicholls was our first Australian male up on the ramp in heat 2 of Run 1. His time was up against Facundo from Argentina. Ryan managed to get an incredible first time of 31.303, ahead of Facundo by just over 3 seconds. Heat 4 of Run 1 had Paul Shaddock on the start ramp, staring down the winding straight of Punta Negra. With a completely clean run, Shadow put a time down of 32.277, 0.89 quicker than his opponent Chikara from Japan. Heat 6 of Run 1 had Nathan Paff up against George Pappas from the USA. Nathan went hard through the GS and finished with a time of 33.611, just not quite being enough to beat George’s time. All our men had clean runs on the GS course and the location of Punta Negra seemed to be bringing in a crowd of locals to cheer on the world’s best at the GS.

The live stream was running and the women were up next for Run 2. Imi was on the ramp and her opponent to compare times had a second DNS. Imi managed to have yet another clean run and improve her time of 34.450 to a 33.688! She was getting faster and looking comfortable on the track. Ish was up against Maggie again, although 12 years old a seasoned skater hailing from Texas. Ish hit one cone however pulled a final time of 33.557!

The womens semi’s had a total of 3 runs, and this time a shuffled order so riders were comparing times to new opponents. Imi was up against Maggie and managed to get a faster time of 34.450 for Run 1, 33.688 for Run 2 and 32.587 for Run 3. Congratulations to Imi for pushing herself and showing it with her improved times all day.

Ish was the 5th rider and now comparing head to head times with Yoshiko Matsuda from Japan. Ish had a time of 33.534 for Run 1, 33.557 for Run 2 and a time of 33.559 for Run 3, getting a faster time for Run 2 and Run 3. Ish finished with an overall 10th place and Imi with a 7th place. For the mens, we had Ryan in 19th place, Paul in 22nd place and Nathan in 24th place.

Congratulations to all of our Australian riders for their incredible efforts, persistence and sportsmanship throughout the World Skate Games in Argentina and another congratulations for all of our opponents from around the world.
Special Slalom - Sunday 30th October 2022

Words from Jack Meyn - Australian Team Manager

Late start due to winds, and extreme temperature change contrary to the prior 3 days at Villicum Racetrack. Track marshals and race organisers discussed postponing the special slalom until the extra day. After much consideration and discussion between the organisers and riders, a decision was made to go ahead with the event. The cold wind was no problem for the Australian team as they were eager to get wiggling. Winds were blowing, and cones were flying off the track without even being hit by a skateboard. The clouds above tempted the track workers not to bother setting the team tents up. The Aussie spirit was strong again with the team manager and coach Jack Meyn and Neil Duddy helping to set the track and double up cones in the hopes the wind wouldn't blow them away.

By day 3, our riders were familiar with the World Skate format of head-to-head timed racing against an opponent on each side of the course. Day 3 was special slalom,(. ).

Run 1 began, with the winds almost blowing the riders off their course. The clouds above proved no needs for tents and almost everyone not skating decided to huddle down beside the racetracks walls to stay warm. Ryan Nicholls was our first rider on the orange track in heat 2, going head-to-head against Argentina’s own Facundo Quiroga. It was a great start for Pickles, crossing the line with a clean run with 0 cones hit and a time of 22.953. Unfortunately, Facundo received a DQ with an unfinished time. Paul Shaddock took on Joseph Kyle Smith from the USA in heat 5, just falling short of a win with a time of 21.896, 1.86 seconds behind Joseph. Straight into heat 6, Nathan Paff went up against Jonathan Harms from the USA, another familiar name of a USA rider. Nathan had a wheel change after his practice runs which proved to be beneficial for his first heat, as he finished with a time of 20.946 to get the win over Jonathan.

Women up next, and the conditions were not improving in the slightest. Scenes were vastly different from the day before, where riders and workers were hunting for sunscreen, shade and fluids, instead it was doubling up on the jackets and wishing we had a coffee truck on the track. Imi was placed in heat 1 against USA’s Lari-Ann Rupp, another familiar name on the start line for our Aussie girls. Imi had a battle with the wind, and unfortunately hit 9 cones, leaving her just safe of a DQ, however she still crossed the line a whopping 2.203 seconds faster than Lari. Heat 3 of the women’s had Ishi and Isa Ruiz from the USA on the start line. The wind wasn’t helping Ish, and unfortunately 10 cones were hit, ending in a DQ. Ish still gave it her all and looked great through the majority of the track before the wind seemingly took over.

With Run 2 for the men about to start, the wind had not settled. The clouds above were slightly darker, and the doubled-up cones had been taped together in the hopes they would not blow off the track. Many of the Run 2 runs had experienced delays due to the wind moving cones off their marks.

Pickles v Facundo again, with Facundo getting a vengeance on his Run 1 disqualification by hitting just one cone. Ryan had a quicker raw time by roughly 0.1 of a second, but with 9 cones hit, his time was brought to a 24.632, 0.7 behind Facundo. The difference of times and results from Run 1 and Run 2 provide insight to the level of competition under the extreme weather changes. Heat 5 had Paul and Joseph meet again, with our Aussie crossing the line with a final time of 20.676. Congratulations to Joseph for putting up a battle with Australia and crossing the line of Run 2 with a time of 19.261. Nathan Paff was feeling the confidence after his first run up against Jonathan and was eager to get back on the start line for his heat 6 run. He managed to get a quicker raw time than his first run and less cones hit than his opponent meant that he had been victorious in his heat with a final time of 20.960.

By the later parts of the day, there was no change in sight in terms of weather. The wind was not stopping, and it definitely had a mind of its own with its many changes of direction. Racing was difficult but our riders took it head on with no problems. The women’s Run 2 had Imi up on the start line for heat 1. She wished Lari luck and made it through the course with 4 cones hit, leaving her with a winning final time of 23.635, earning herself a place in the quarter finals. Heat 3 had Ishi back on the ramp up against Isa, and it was great to see Ish battle her way through the challenging course, with 9 cones hit she managed to get a final time recorded of 26.657, putting her in 10th place for the women’s. A very big congratulations and well done to Ishi Pang for showing persistence with a smile on her face and giving it her all throughout the special slalom. I am sure the Aussie presence was felt every time she passed the Team Australia tent.

Imi’s efforts in Run 1 and Run 2 earnt herself a spot in the quarter finals. This was exciting for Team Australia as we all got to watch together and cheer on from the side lines. Imi was up against skate legend Judi Oyama from the USA. Unfortunately, Imi received a DQ in Run 1, but gave it her all in Run 2 with a final time of 24.924. Judi ended up with the win and went on to get 4th place behind Latvia’s Eliza Gailite, Anna Gailite and USA’s Lynn Kramer. Well done to all of the riders from around the world for their stellar efforts throughout the Special Slalom day at the World Skate Games.

With 68 cones at 6-7 feet apart, our team quickly forgot about their sore legs from the day prior and got straight into helping set the course and lay some practice runs down.

With the same head to head format as the Hybrid slalom, riders were to go up against an opponent for two runs on each coloured course. The courses were identical in spacing and offset features, just flipped to reflect each side.

The Womens division went first, with our Ishy taking on the young Maggie Harrison from the USA in round 3. Unfortunately both girls were disqualified due to the maximum number of cones being hit. The tight was proving to be difficult, much different to the hybrid the day before in terms of spacing and the number of cones. Imi was up next, today going up against Isa Ruiz, another Team USA rider. Imi successfully crossed the line first, and despite hitting 8 cones towards the end of her run, she still managed to have a final time of 21.588, a tiny click above a whole second infront of Ruiz.

The 2nd Run, much like Day 1, proved to be challenging with the heat affecting the track surface and the riders eagerness to get through the course quickly. Unfortunately, all of the first 4 rounds of Run 2 ended in a disqualification by both riders. Imi’s result in Run 1 had luckily qualified her for the round of 8 that would take place later in the day.

Much like the womens round, there were plenty of disqualifications due to the maximum number of hit cones for the mens Run 1. Ryan Nicholls unfortunately DQ’d against Japans own Junji Uno in round 2, however it was Paul Shaddock in round 5 who laid a time of 18.487 down after hitting 2 cones, with his opponent Jonathan Harms from the USA ending in a disqualification. Watching Shadow complete the run without a DQ must have pushed Nathan Paff to go hard in his head up against Joseph Kyle Smith from the USA, but unfortunately after 9 cones hit, he ended with a time of 19.460. It was great to see the men battle it out in the challenging 1st Run, with 11 of the 26 riders ending in a disqualification.

Run 2 saw Pickles back on his game with a qualified run, hitting 8 cones against Juno with a final time of 21.611. It wasnt enough to take out Juno, but it was a stellar effort with the increased heat and track conditions for the tight slalom. Shadow and Jonathan switched results with Shadow getting a DQ and Johnathan finishing with a time of 19.173, 6.86 seconds slower than Shadows Run 1 time. Round 6 of Run 2 had Nathan Paff up against Joseph Smith from the USA again, with both riders completing their runs with 4 hit cones each, resulting in a win for Joseph by just over a second. The heat conditions did not get easier as the day went on with Run 2 resulting in 8 disqualifications. With 68 cones in total, and a very small spacing between them, even the riders who later podiumed where hitting cones. Was there strategy involved? Did the rides plan to hit certain cones to have a quicker time? Is it worth it?

The womens quarter finals had Imi going up against Lynn Kramer, the Gold medalist from the Hybrid Slalom event that took place the day before. As always, Imi gave it her all, including a bright and loud ‘Good Luck!’ on the start line, however Lynn was too quick. Imi ended having a cleaner run in regards to cones with only 2 cones hit compared to Lynn’s 4, but Imi fell short by just over 2.5 seconds. The defeat did not hinder Imi’s spirit, as she returned to the team Aus tent with a smile and expression of appreciation for Lynn and stating that that is where Imi wants to be in the future, putting fast times down and crossing the line first.

Lynn went on to get 2nd place for the womens, behind Latvia’s own Anna Gailite. The mens quarters were covered by Latvia, USA, Czech Republic and Brazil. It was an all Latvian podium for the mens with Gustavs Gailitis in first place, Janis Kuzmins in second place and Toms Dreiblats in third. Congratulations to Latvia, it was a pleasure dodging cones with you!

WSG report - Hybrid Slalom - Friday 28th October 2022tag:www.skateboardracing.org.au,2022-11-17:2144162:BlogPost:11006842022-11-17T06:00:00.000ZHophttp://www.skateboardracing.org.au/profile/Hop

Words from Jack Meyn - Australian Team Manager

After a half day of training on the 27th, the Australian Slalom Skateboarding team rolled into the Villicum Racetrack ready to take on the day ahead of Hybrid Slalom. Country tents were first come, first served and Australia opted for a tent half way up the left side of the track. Skate Australia Chef de Mission Nicole Mills-Goodwin was quick to cover our tent in Australian flags, big and small to let other countries know we were present.

The Villicum Racetrack where to host the following 3 days of Slalom (GS to be held at Punta Negra) on an inclined section of their straightaway. The Hybrid slalom brought two matching courses of 43 cones, an orange course and a flipped white course. Riders were to have 2 rounds of head to head racing against a selected opponent, each rider trying to get their best time on both coloured courses.

The very first round of the day bought our very own Ryan Nicholls to the start ramp with fellow (and only!) Aotearoa rider, Api Ihaia. Api had spent the days leading up to the event eating food and exploring Zonda with the Aus team, so it was all smiles ahead as they prepared to go head to head. Api surprised the slalom crew with a first run time of 19.741, 0 cones hit with Ryan ‘Pickles’ Nichols not far behind with a time of 20.884, which includes the 0.2 second time penalty due to hitting 2 cones.

The 5th heat brought Paul ‘Shadow’ Shaddock and USA’s Lou Statman together. Times were within the second, with Paul falling just under 0.7 seconds behind Lou. Paul had a clean run with 0 zones hit while Lou hit two, adding a 0.2 second penalty to his time, yet still being just ahead of Shadow. Round 8 had Nathan Paff up against Colin Kruse from the USA, both having a clean run with just above half a second separating their times.

The womens division showed 13 female riders from 5 countries step up to the ramp, with 7 rounds of head to head racing. Ayesha ‘Ishi’ Pang was the first of our girls, going up against Lari-Anne Rupp from USA in the 3rd round. With a 4 cone penalty, Ishi managed to take the win over Lari with a time of 22.804. Round 5 had Imogen ‘Imi’ McMillan up against skate veteran Judi Oyama from the USA. Both women had a penalty of 1 cone each, almost making a clean run. Judi managed to have a 0.352 second lead to get the win over Imi.

After 13 rounds and 25 male racers putting times down for Run 1, it was time to begin Run 2 for the males. Riders would go head to head with the same rider from Run 1, with their results placing the top 8 riders in the Head 2 Head finals and the 9-16 riders in a qual semi bracket. With the track heating up, Run 2’s heats proved to be slightly faster times for most riders but also delivered many more cone penalties. Similar to Run 1, Pickles crossed the line just over a second after Api, with both riders hitting 3 cones each. Round 5 had Shadow hit 3 cones, with Lou hitting one, leaving Shadow’s time roughly 0.7 of a second behind Lou. Round 8 had Nathan Paff up against Colin Kruse again from the USA. Colin with a 2 cone penalty and Paff with a 3 cone penalty ended with Colin in front by 1.28 seconds. Congratulations to all the male riders that our Aussies got to battle against in the Hybrid Slalom.

Similar to the mens, the track was definitely heating up for the womens 2nd Run. The women were eager to go harder and improve their time, ready to battle through opposite sides of the course. Round 3 had Ish get the better time over Lari-Ann again, over 2 seconds faster which included a 3 cone penalty! Imi had another battle versing legendary Judi Oyama, and she fought hard to cross the finish line just 0.099 seconds behind Judi, however a cone penalty brought Imi’s time to 22.197.

While our riders had some tough opponents, we are very proud of the sportspersonship they showed throughout the day, wishing luck to their opponents, congratulating their opponents, helping set the track, cheer on other countries and take tiem to greet each and every single rider, organiser and track worker.

First Runs:
Ryan Nicholls: 20.884
Nathan Paff: 18.857
Paul Shaddock: 19.974
Ayesha Pang: 22.804
Imogen McMillan: 21.644

Best Times:
Ryan Nicholls: 20.366
Nathan Paff: 18.857
Paul Shaddock: 19.610
Ayeasha Pang: 22.381
Imogen McMillan: 21.644

Run 1 & Run 2:
Ryan Nicholls: v Api Ihaia (NZL)
Nathan Paff: v Colin Kruse (USA)
Paul Shaddock: c Lou Statman (USA)
Ayeasha Pang: v Lari-Ann Rupp (USA)
Imogen McMillan: v Judi Oyama (USA)

Round of 8:
Imogen McMillan: v Judi Oyama (USA)

Overall Placings:
Ryan Nicholls: 22nd
Nathan Paff: 17th
Paul Shaddock: 16th
Ayeasha Pang: 10th
Imogen McMillan: 7th

World Skate Games - Downhill Skate, Luge and Inline Updatetag:www.skateboardracing.org.au,2022-11-10:2144162:BlogPost:11004722022-11-10T23:19:19.000ZMax Heatonhttp://www.skateboardracing.org.au/profile/Maxheaton622

A fantastic 3 days have passed by in San Juan, Argentina and we would like to update the community back home with some insight into what the World Skate Games has produced thus far.

We have such an outstanding group of individuals representing the country here and it has been nothing but impressive seeing how the team conducts themselves both on and off the track.

Day 1 and Day 2 brought high temperatures, scorching sun and as always some mishaps on track with the team, as Harry always says though "gotta eat shit to know shit". A couple of the team had some spills throughout both days but everyone is still in one piece and working towards the end goal of putting down the best result possible.

We have just finished up with Day 3 and we have some fantastic news to share; we have a medal! We knew from the start our Luge team consisting of Graham Brittain and Julian Slaney was the powerhouse duo we needed, both have an incredible history in the sport and both have what it takes to bring home medals on race day, but today was official qualifying and Graham is bringing home some gold with a top qualifying position with the time of 1:14.20. Julian also laid down a brilliant run and has come in at 6th overall with a 1:15.54. Full luge qualifying can be found here.

These results combined have left us in a somewhat favourable position of both riders being situated on opposite sides of the bracket for racing tomorrow, so they won't have to meet until finals. Brackets can be found here. Racing begins tomorrow morning, 10am local San Juan time.

Our Inline athlete Greg Casey has come in and shown a fantastic attitude to his first world championship and is improving on every run, and has a beaming smile whilst doing it. Greg also completed qualifying today and we are awaiting on World Skate to provide us with accurate results and also the Inline brackets.

The Skate team is in high spirits as always and are eager to begin qualifying tomorrow, with racing to begin on Saturday.

World Skate Games is fast approaching and we're incredibly hyped to get out to Argentina in a few weeks to represent the country!

We've had some updates to our team for the games and they are as follows:

Mens Slalom: Adam Yates for Ryan Nicholls

Inline: Luke Webb for Greg Casey

Unfortunately for the team we have heard from Jasmine and she will be unable to attend the games because of personal reasons and ASRA has accepted this withdrawal.

Team Selection for World Skate Games Slalom Team

The World Skate Games in Argentina later this year (Oct 24 - Nov 13 ) is expected to include for the first time Skateboard Slalom Racing. The upcoming Slalom Championships to be held in Canberra on the 12th – 14th of March 2022, will be a pivotal event for Australian team selection, and will be run in line with ISSA rules.

We understand that if the World Skate Games includes a slalom program, it is expected to include; tight head to head, hybrid and giant slalom, in Buenos Aires and San Juan.

The qualification for World Skate Games is more formal than what we are used to in the slalom community.

We understand that there will be two classes: Men and Women, and no age classes. There will be three ways to qualify for these classes:

a) The top 20 racers (20 men, 20 women) from the current world ranking.

b) Each national association can select and register 3 men and 3 women, in addition to the top 20. c) Persons in countries with no national association can also participate.

That means Australia can send 3 male and 3 female competitors to compete in the Slalom Racing program, plus any Australian in the top 20 of the ISSA rankings.

(see announcement on http://www.slalomskateboarder.com)

See http://www.skateboardracing.org.au/events/capital-punishment-australian-national-slalom championships-2022 for event info and links to the ISSA rules.

Once confirmed, ASRA will provide technical advice on slalom to Skate Australia, the recognised National Sporting Organisation for skateboarding and skate sports in Australia.

That advice will include ratification of skateboard racing rules, race sanctioning criteria, and providing guidance on identifying appropriate candidates who will be able to represent Australia in World Skate events.

Competitors should note that if selected, all costs to attend World Skate Games are paid by individual skaters as government funding is not available to support this competition.

Note that all racers are expected to have read and understood the ISSA rules.

For more information on rules, the event or any other questions about the World Skate Games please contact ASRA.

The ASRA AGM is here, and we are looking for Board nominations.

We announced the AGM for Sunday 26th August at 3pm however, the nomination forms did not make it online. We are changing the date to Sunday 9nd September at 3pm. This should give enough time for nominations.

All board positions are available: President, Vice president, Treasurer, Secretary and General Board position.

You need to be a financial member to nominate yourself. The form has membership dropdown fields so you first select yourself from the list of members, and then at the bottom you need to be endorsed by two members. If you are using the printed form, get those members to sign the form or you can print their names on the form. Otherwise, use the online form, and select their name.

If you are having problems with the form, please let me know.

How does the nomination work?
You need to be a financial ASRA member to be nominated. Having a member profile on this website does not counted. Current members are listed below. If you are not on that list you are not a financial member. If you have just recently paid or join, the list is manually updated, it might take a day to appear. If there is a delay please email president@skateboardracing.org.au

How do I become a financial member?
Sign up for membership here

How does the voting work?
There will be a vote this year, we dont know how that is going to work. At this stage the idea is to email financial members on Sunday morning and they can cast a vote by return email before 1 or 2pm Sunday afternoon, so we can count the votes and announce before AGM. There will be proxy forms, that will announced tomorrow (Thursday or Friday).

Saturday: Tight Slalom ( Race 1 )

First up was the tight slalom practice ,,50 straight cones at 1.8 Set by Dan Monaghan, the track was fast , the new asphalt giving way more grip than previous years ,and had most skaters moving into the last 15 cones quicker then they could cope with , a change in the setting saw the last 20 out to 2m and the race was on.

From the first runs you could see that this was going to be very close ,early pace setter Api Ihana from New Zeland and 2016 ASRA points champion Dan Monaghan, swapping the lead , with 5 riders vying for the top spot, to the very last run with less then 0.54 of a second seperating the top 4 racers, the 2017 ASRA race season was off to a great start.

Young Naccos skater Tyron Knight in first place with a 13.42

2nd Dan Monaghan 13.59

3rd Mick Codner With a 13.70

4th Paul Carey 13.96

5th Api Ihana New Zeland 14.81
6th Mark Gorman 15.45
7th Evan Miris 16.07
8th George Miris 17.62
9th Ciaron Rodriguez 18.53
10th Ben Manganaro 19.63
11th Tom Hay 21.07
12th Scott Hammond DQ

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Saturday

Hybrid Number 1 ( Race 2 )

The over cast calm morning gave way to a gusty west tail wind ,with the forecast temp of 28 now in the mid 30s things were heating up for the 50 cone Hybrid set by Paul Cary, & Mountain Mick.

A deceptive shotgun style course ,all gates being different to the next with no chance of getting into any rhythm.

Practice saw most of the riders either changing boards or wheel and bushing set ups, trying to get the feel of the new layout.

The new track was suiting some better then others, Scott Hammond who had a bad morning with board selection and tuning ,was now setting some clean runs. Was interesting to see some of the board set ups full 77mm Centrax , 89a orange Plus, Zigs on $1000 foam Carbon holy grails to the other side of the coin like the youngest skater of the weekend Tom Hay. He rocked the same set up all weekend , and had a few of the skaters scratching there head , technically speaking , a very large pool board with downhill trucks and dads old 70+ mm O tangs is not the type of ride for a slalom race , didn't bother Tom , he just got faster.

First was Paul Cary with a 12.56 , 2nd Api Ihana 13.35, 3rd Dan Monoghan 13.80

4th Mick Codner 14.02
5th Tyron Knight 14.04
6th Mark Gorman 15.41
7th Evan Miris 16.22
8th George Miris 16.68
9th Scott Hammond 18.45
10th Ciaron Rodriguez 18.46
11th Ben Manganaro 19.23
12th Tom Hay 19.40

_______________________________________________________________________________

Day 2 Sunday 19/2/17

Special Stage ( Race 3 )

First up was a rider's meeting, a quick postmortem of all the things good and some of what needed improvement from the day before, then that out of they way we set the plans for the day ahead .

Dan had planed this track and brought the specs all printed out on sheets of A4 it had a bit of everything , starting in on the left of the first cone didn't seam a big deal , even with a big chalk arrow pointing in the right direction, had some DQ a bit faster then they had planned.

A fun medium paced hybrid track with some large offsets had most riders using the same board set up from the previous day, and the improved cone marshalling, we had it run and won in a few hours.

Evan Miris had his first podium with a 15,08

2nd was Ciaran Rodriguez,

Hybrid Number 2 ( Race 4 )

The last race of the Newtons IDF weekend was to be the GS but with the event location change we had to go with a 2nd hybrid , I found this track to be free flowing yet challenging and had all the hallmarks of a world class track , I asked Mick to describe the layout ,

"Hybrid course 2 was my creation .Nothing special first 15 cones were spaced at 6 foot intervals with a slight curve and small offsets leading into a Ritchie wing The Ritchie wing was the creation of OSR and Boyd McMillan. Four cones stagger off the centre line each cone gets further off the centre until your about 1 metre wide, then in this case an off set spaced at nine feet back to centre into a set of staggered off set cones with a GIVE ME cone and into another Ritchie wing going the opposite way to the first ,another nine foot offset and into a straight ten @seven feet to the line .

Electric Skateboards: Are They The Future Of Skateboarding?tag:www.skateboardracing.org.au,2017-01-17:2144162:BlogPost:8413752017-01-17T18:17:09.000ZEmily Lopeshttp://www.skateboardracing.org.au/profile/EmilyLopes

A few years ago, we had an opportunity to see the first electric skateboard. Due to short range, less-powerful electric motor and several other issues, it wasn’t extremely popular. Nowadays, there are hundreds of different electric skateboards, and they are gaining popularity as we speak. An interesting thing to mention is that now you can play flash games that feature electric skateboards.
They are available at unblocked games and their number is increasing as well.

Power can make a difference

Obviously, the first and therefore the most important fact, when it comes to this type of skateboards is the power. All of them have small and compact electric motors, usually located between the wheels. Interesting: Some, new versions have electric motors placed in their wheels.

The power of a unit is the main thing, simply because it will be responsible for moving you and your skateboard. The slowest models have an electric motor of 150W, which is plenty, but only if you are a complete beginner. More advanced and suitable models have a power range between 800 and 2.000W. Average electric skateboard should have a 300-400W electric motor. Only if you want a higher top speed and more power, you should get a unit with a more powerful electric motor.

The drive is a completely different fact. Most electric skateboards feature rear-wheel drive, which is sufficient. However, some high-end models offer all-wheel drive. They are definitely a much better alternative, simply because the level of grip will be much higher. You can drive it faster on uneven terrain and make better stunts. Let’s just add the fact that this advantage is noticeable only on electric skateboards with mid and high-power electric motors.

The bi-directional drive is needed, but not mandatory. It is used to move the electric skateboard in two directions, allowing for the drivers to make better stunts and to maneuver their skateboards much faster.

Battery importance

All electric skateboards are powered by a battery obviously. The secret is in the capacity and the charging time. Make sure a quick-charging feature is available because it allows you to recharge it and drive your skateboard again in less time than usual. A real pleasure is batteries fitted in high-end models. They can last for a decade and they are resistant to shocks and vibrations.

Some new models (most of them are still in development) have removable batteries. In essence, you can have two batteries so when one is drained out, you can swap another one.

Regenerative braking is becoming more and more needed. This feature is standard on mist electric cars and it is simple to explain why. It uses braking to generate electricity. Normally, braking force will be transferred into heat, but with this feature, it will be saved as energy. Having an electric skateboard with this feature is more than just recommended.

Range and speed

New electric skateboards are equipped with special features that allow them to maximize the electricity the battery has. Thanks to them, the range is usually 8 miles, which is plenty for a small device like an electric skateboard. Those with regenerative braking usually have longer ranges. Models with a range of 2-3 miles are usually designed for short fun.

Is the speed something you after? Most, electric skateboards can reach 25 miles per hour. Standing while generating and maintaining this speed is a real pleasure and more than just interesting.

A separate fact is a controlling feature. There are two alternatives. The first one uses the remote controller, which is preferred and another one is a wired controller. In no case, choose a model with wire controller. They are more dangerous and more complicated to ride.

Weight and weight capacity

The last point here is the weight. There is no point in having an electric skateboard that is too heavy. Luckily, most models are between 13 and 20 pounds heavy. Lighter ones are made from exotic materials, so they have higher prices.

Weight load is important as well. Having an electric skateboard with a weight load of 350 pounds is perfect. Cheaper models will have a lower weight load.

Electric versus standard skateboard

At the end, we came to the main comparing of the electric and standard skateboard. The bottom line is that electric models are better. They can be used as standard ones and they offer far more capabilities. In addition, they are more sophisticated and interesting. The only drawback is the fact they are not ideal for skateboarding stunts. They are heavier and the materials cannot usually withstand all the jumping and etc. However, several manufacturers announced that they will present stunt-oriented electric skateboards in 2017.

As a way of transportation and a source of fun, electric skateboards are a masterpiece and probably the best type of skateboards ever made.

Hey there Skateboarders,

Here is a little something to make you feel a little proud, particularly as we come up to Critmas.

It is a little known fact that there are some of our group who are active in the skate scene but are also active in the area of giving back to the community.
It is a little known fact that there are some of our group who are active in the skate scene but are also active in the area of giving back to the community. These are the punters who not only leave blood and DNA on the roads of Australia, but these little bleeders attend the Blood Bank to donate their finest, that which is termed as 'RED GOLD'.

The results of the Australian Red Cross Blood Bank Club Red Program shows that there have been 19 Blood Donations by ASRA members.

This means that 57 lives have been saved by the actions of our members. Gives me a Woohoo moment.

ASRA Life Savers

Between now and Critmas there will be a big need for blood supplies so if you over 16 and are prepared to roll your sleeve up, skate in to your local Blood Bank and give a little.

You'll get a feed, the world's best biscuit and get a good feeling of having given someone the best Critmas present possible.

If you are a fan of ink, the Blood Bank have reduced the time between you last appearance at the tattooists and the Blood Bank to 4 months.

Over to you.

Make sure you tell them that you want your donation recorded on the ASRA tally.

Peace everyone.
Noosa ProAMtag:www.skateboardracing.org.au,2016-08-08:2144162:BlogPost:8396232016-08-08T10:12:21.000ZDario Tabordahttp://www.skateboardracing.org.au/profile/DarioTaborda
