hey man. i guess ur "crazycarlscars"? welcome to the world of longboarding. be careful, its very addictive.
i think the best thing you can do, is come to the next big mellow session. this usually includes everyone and all skill levels.
this session is usually a great opportunity for u and us to decide where ur at in terms of experience and technique.
if ur cruising around on a pintail, i'd recommend u do only that. unfortunately cheap pintails can't take the stress of DH. so I suggest you look into getting a DH setup if u want to pursue that style of riding.
but until then, when you join us for DH sessions, you can use our spare boards. that will help you decide what kind of DH setup you want too.
we got quite a few adelaide guys now on ASRA. its great.
i never use it in place of padded leathers. i use it when doing mellow DH (Linden Ave), to help prevent roadrash when i come off. its better than a hoody.
Hey dude, welcome to asra!! Still have'nt mastered the art of foot braking at speed but it's getting better. I dont need to foot brak at eagle, I just get low and take the corners fast so it's working out ok for now. Practice!!!
Hey there dude, long time no hear. How are you and your crew getting along?? progressing much on the hills?? Still have'nt caught you dudes at Linden yet. Soon though.
thats cool dude. thats what longboarding is all about.
having problems with my computer atm, so can't put anything up. also i don't tend to upload footage every session, cos i like to make montage/compilation videos. but once i sought out the computer i'll throw something basic up for ya.
well because of your board and due to the fact your a big guy, i'd go half green, half red in venoms. i have an Evo and i'd be a lot lighter than you, so i use softer than recommended bushings (Red) on my Evo.
so i think the green and red mix would work quite well for you. stable at speed, but still carvy.
just remember, its different for everyone. it comes down to personal preference, weight and board set-up. just because someone might really love what they ride, doesn't mean you will love it too.
there is nothing as good as venoms at the moment. khiros are crap in comparison.
and just to clarify, you want "Venom Downhill Bushings" as opposed to "Venom Standard" or "Venom Super Carve".
Dude, nothing that good. the camera fucked itself for some reason and i only got pics with the phone. I won't upload coz its nothing special. A really nice smooth bit down below, I don't know how to get there. The bit at the end of dashowood is bad. But this bit down the bottom is really smooth and no lines down the middle. I'd lke to see the end of it (northern side) coz you couldnt see where it came from in my view. But according to google maps it goes longer.
Im not talking about doing the whole thing, probably just the middle section. I was capable on a board when I first started riding Eagle with these dudes. It was a whole different type of skating for me though. I had only skated Sector 9's off the shelf. No helmets, gloves, leathers, pads or anything like that but the middle section is fairly simple. Compare yourself to someone like Russell. He has only been skating a couple of months and he does the middle section so if you think your fairly even with him then go for it. Only one way to get better and build up your skills and thats by pushing the limits a little bit more each time.
Yea dude, the middle section is virtually straight, you dont have to brake or break your tuck the whole way through then it goes into flat so you just ride off your speed and trot your way back to the top.
Not sure as of yet, arrive in Adelaide Friday. Skating on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Maybe Tuesday, not sure what day im coming back here yet. Keen to hit Eagle as often as possible (been so long since i have ridden it) so keep an eye out here and I will post up when I know. Russ and I may be going to Eagle Friday arvo when I arrive so maybe that would be the go a chilled afternoon sesh. Probably get into town about 1 or 2 and skate it till it's dark.
i used the VIO POV.1 fully intergrated cam, got it from http://www.launchhelmetcams.com/fully-integrated/pov1
the price is going up coz of the ozzie dollar i got it for $900
125 Randals with assorted Venom and Khiro bushings. 70mm 4Prez. 42 plate back, 50 front. The end up about 55 and 35 after wedging.
Are you looking for a slalom setup.
Btw what condish are the Paris trucks your friend has? he hasn't answered my last message..
btw im not sure what paris trucks your friend has but they will probably be too wide. the 125's are wayy wide as it is, i only bought them so that i could get the plates for a dh board.
doesnt matter who your asking for about the gear but with those prices your dreaming... i might sell you a set of o-tangs that are compelete triangles for $40... even those you can recycle by flipping them and wearing out the other edge. and even so i probs wont do them for $40...
your easiest option would be the double trackers. The bennetts are a pretty tall truck so you would have to mess with the wedges to get the right axle height on both trucks... the tracker rtx/s is the simplest option for you. If your looking at setting up a slalom board go for the 105mm trucks, they are sick for pumping and can also handle slalom courses. What sorta board are you putting em on?
ok then. for a board that size you'd definately want the smaller hangers... 139's would be ridiculously big for it... for slalom we use boards around the 31"-35" mark, and we still run trucks with hangers as narrow as 105mm and they fucken rock ay... so fun to go pump around town on slalom boards
its not a hard road dude. actually it seems quite easy. your just going straight, and you probs will be lucky to hit 100k's on it really... 3k's at 11% on a straight road, all you need to do is hang on till u get to the bottom... remember speed wobbles are a state of mind
i've only used them once (nicko has one puck) and that was in the rain. they slide amazingly, but they feel rough under the hand and i'm not sure, but might be a bit too slippery in the dry. you might have to test em out yourself.
i suggest you try beveling the a bit to get rid of the edges and i always prefer velcro for pucks. ask nicko about the velcro, cos thats what he used on his.
