If you're worried about speed, I've noticed probably the two biggest factors that come into it are wheels and confidence.
The other thing is I've tried my share of hills (not massive ones) but even though some of them look really big, when you actually ride down them, you still move at a comfortable speed most of the time.

Nah, I was in the city, but it was pissing down, so I went home.

The bridge ride is a once a year thing, so it'll have to wait till Nov 2009.
