also, there appears to be a bigger version of drifters being built next door to it, cant wait to see how it turns, out, so far its looking like 3 maybe 4 turns back to back and nice and steep, i might get the mountain bike out tonight and go see what the layout and incline is like
Sunday is a outlaw race at royal park, the hill is not very challenging but it is long enough to be abit of fun, the key info is as follows
10am rego at royal park, corner flemington road and elliot avenue parkville,
If your unsure how to get to the hill there is a group meeting at federation square at 9.15ish to head there as a group (i suggest this if your new to melbourne)
Head to head racing, helmets mandatory
alright melbourne crew, my dervish has served me well and the earthwing supermodel has stolen my heart... I haven't the heart to put her on the marketplace, but if one of you made me a good offer and promise to love her good, i'll let her go.
complete:
Dervish flex 2: lively flex, never smashed the nose, minimum razor tail.
Randal 180's: very good condish.
Orange Inheats: almost never slid. almost perfect lips, muax.
Bearings: they roll
Bushings: 74a reflex + blue khiros.
Dam you Ben and your cleverness-ness!!!
im up for a midweek carpark sesh as i dare say Sean O'Call will be and iv got a couple of mate who wana check out what we do lol maybe thursday night?
heard at the shoot out that a bunch of people where going to drifters tommorow. is that still happening?! if so give me the details and i'll come on bye with a couple of mates. :]
i just want to make something clear about hills in the area of drifters, they are serious hills, you need to have a solid predrift and have complete control of your speed while cornering or you will get seriously hurt there, if you lose control of your speed then you will get hurt and in the worst case so far with alex he snapped his leg when he lost control at drifters coming into the turn, get your stuff dailed in at spots like fitzy first, drifters is the place you go dail in your stuff on big turns
Does someone (looking at team melburn) want to start a dedicated discussion thread of Melb spots? As a bit of a noob to the scene I hear of 'drifters' 'fitzy' etc. but have no idea where they are.
A thread with a list of the popular ones including google map links and legal/outlaw status would be super handy.
Yo Sean, I know its a busy time of year but anything on footage from your boi yet?
Keen to see all the races me an Alex missed, while we were baking at the start line & to catch a re-run of me bustin me arm & bleeding all over the place! =)
yo, its not the time of year thats making it hard for it to get cut down, its the weather, The editing machine collin uses generates alot of heat, during winter its sweet but with this summer heat the thing has alot of issues running, its taking some time to get done.
Colby, Fitzy refers to fitzroy gardens, up at the parliment end of flinders street, acoss the road from jolimont station. Drifters is somewhere in victoria but with in half an hour of the CBD
Hey Colby, with out being a dick, there are reasons we have "code names" for some spots, safety of riders, problems with authority's, selfishness, the list goes on... session's are put up on here so if you wanna skate these spots your more then welcome to with people who know them and that can keep a close eye on ya! :P
as im sure you, and everyone else on here is aware Longboarding is a very new sport, our public image is still developing and by its nature we are bound to piss some people off, the more we can minimalize it, the better....
Low point for me... Does anyone have some old setup bits they can spare? I'm new to longboarding and need some basic gear to tie me over till next year when maybe my wife will let me buy some decent stuff.
Currently I'm riding on a home made deck with short, loose vertical pin trucks (street trucks) and a set of super hard and super tiny (50dia x 30mm) wheels. So for a start trying to get some old unwanted wheels which are a bit bigger and more suited to DH/slides, to at least get a little practice in. Beggars can't be choosers, happy to pay about $10 as thanks/cover post or collect them from city or west of. Happy to hear of other stuff if you have it sitting, any condish.
Those of you who have had a kid + mortgage + single income can hopefully relate to where I'm coming from... wouldn't change it for the world, but it doesnt help the hobbies.
I'll give you an owe you one, which may mean a push forward in a meet a free homemade deck (once i get them more refined) or a few drinks after a session.
Ben
