so has the course for march 6 been decided yet?

  • Premium Member

    sean meaney

pretty much, its not set in stone but it has to be at flagstaff, what we have been running (the guys who have come out with me in the last week) is very good for 2 man heats and has enough speed to be interesting while having some gnarness in the turns and some places to pass people, its short and its fun
  • Will Scullin

guys, whens the next skate on this weekend. im making a new movie and would love a few more than my usual two to get some shots of, some interviews and shit. anyone cool with that for a relitavely soon melbs sesh?

    Ching

from what g told me about "the course" at flagstaff, i have to say i don't agree. its pretty short and it'll end up being a 15 second race. i say stick to the course we did at the first race there. it's longer and which is much more interesting.

you start out at the statue in the center take the route past the courts, make a right, tuck down the straight and then make a left for the last straight.

    Ching

  • Oscar

    Yeah thats the best.
  • jason treloar

hey ching yer that sounds like a good courseee but the last hill constantly gets dirt and stones and big sticks all over it and always a guy with a baby down there who yea, anyways looks goood

  • Premium Member

    sean meaney

ching the main issue i have with that track is the fact that it turns into a push or pump race on that flat section and gets very very boreing to watch, i would rather have something quick and with no boring bits then that one, SATURDAY WE WILL TEST IT OUT.

will, your best to come out friday, saturday late arvo, and sunday at 6, any of those will times are good. give me a call on 0400083729 when your keen to come film

  • Premium Member

    Ching

i dont know about everyone else but i think a 15 second race is pretty boring. the problem with your track is its too narrow. and the left turn immediately leads to an uphill. its a race where whoever has the strongest push off wins. the turn is too narrow to take 2 people at once there is only one line you can take without crashing into the bush.

nothing to test out, we've seshed that spot so many times already. we'll do it like what we did, no pumping or pushing at the flat bit, whoever takes the first right corner the best and keeps their tuck will go through the flat bit the fastest.

that's just my 2 cents its really up to you. i think you should give everyone a more worthwhile track. i wouldnt take part in a race that is done in 15 seconds.

    Ching

jason, we'll grab a broom and sweep the path on that day and we'll have spotters so nothing to worry about :)

  • Premium Member

    Fendy

    I agree with ching.
  • Will Scullin

yeah sean saturday sounds great, wheres the sesh at? somewhere city ish?

  • Premium Member

    sean meaney

ok fendy and ching you want to race a boreing line thats shit slow, just wanting to make that clear. i absolutely hate the idea of racing on the slowest part of the gardens where weight will be as much of an advantage as being able to corner properly, you want to have a race on skill not body weight then we can modify the line currently decided, throwing the right turn at the end so you gotta slam down a foot break, a predrift or have some balls and alot of luck. A LONG RACE AT SLOW SPEEDS IS NOT A GOOD RACE.

will, it will be in the city and i will probobly be in a suite if thats cool

  • Premium Member

    sean meaney

oh yeah, sunday night riders, i got a spot that we need to try and hit/film, its a carpark that i am pretty sure is too gnar to get down unless you got the worlds best toeside predrift and some amazing pregrabs at speed, i cant wait to try and hit it, Dan your gonna love me for this,
  • Oscar

You cruise pretty fast into that first turn sean, stop being so lame.

  • Premium Member

    sean meaney

oscar, you hit one turn with abit of speed, after that it is about a single degree of slope before going into a left turn at about 10kms an hour, BIG WHOOP, its two turns at slow speeds, requires no foot breaking no predrifting no balls to commit to hitting the fast line. hitting a fast line that takes some balls and your on your toes the whole time is alot more interesting for me, i want to fall, i want to have to worry about fucking the turns up and hurting myself, fuck man up ride something narrow, fast and gnar'er where passing takes balls
  • stephen.mhsrider

why aren't we at fitzroy then? haha

  • Premium Member

    Fendy

I say we race fitzroy. We do that bomb starting at the northwest side. Then we gotta turn left into that "bridge" section and then another left and continue straight to the finish line. Another good one would be starting at the same spot but go down along the west side of fitzy all the way till the end then there's a left turn at the bottom. Just throwing out ideas. Sean, last I checked, you've got no balls.

  • Premium Member

    sean meaney

FENDY SHUT THE FUCK UP, we are locked in at flagstaff for the reccord,

  • Premium Member

    Ching

it's sean's race let him do what he wants to do. we can always organize something else after this. sean, i was under the impression that this race was going to be for beginners. but i guess this is more about making yourself look good.

this is not an official race and it's going to be alot of inexperienced riders hence alot of crashing and possibly injuries (if you're taking that run you planned). doesnt exactly show the best of this sport. in fact, the newbies might be deterred off dh if they have a pretty bad crash. last time i remembered, we had alot of fun doing the last race at flagstaff.

not everything is about doing the most dangerous thing there is and showing off you have balls. and sean stop being so hostile to everyone. so much for changing.

essentially, this is your race. we are just advising you. i've had experience planning a beginners race here and organizing events when i was in malaysia. i'll still show up and support it.

  • Premium Member

    Ching

and sean, you hit the first corner at a decent speed, go on the flat bit and then you take the right into a downhill personally, i think this course requires more skill. whoever takes the best line at the right hand (drifting that corner at full speed isnt something you can pick up in one go), has the best tuck to get through the flat and through the last turn will come up on top.

last i remember, someone ate shit at the first right corner during the last race. so dont worry you'll get to fall (seeing thats what you want) ;)

BUT like i said its your race its entirely up to you. just dont go dissing everyone who tries to give an opinion.
  • Dale

while I technically should have zero say on the matter due to skill and i'll be unable to race (prior commitments for the long weekend) I kind of feel I should have some form of input.

Ching and Fendy are just trying to help, they want to see the sport take off and are trying to give you a helping hand in the right direction, Although some spills would make it more interesting, who would want to get into a sport where their first experience is one of sliding across the road losing skin because the line's too hard for a beginner. This is not my opinion so don't rage at me.

Sean, we all know that you've put a lot of work into this race, and i don't believe any of the things that have been said in here are having a go at you, they're just trying to make this event have the best chance of success possible, maybe you could try some of the runs they're talking about out on friday? you might find that you enjoy them more, if not, it's not really a big loss is it? you're skating friday anyway man.
  • Nippon

sean's event. sean's track. cant please everyone. more events in future.

but discussion and debate in longboard community = good.

    sean meaney

look, pissed off when i made the comments, the 'groms' where bombing hard carparks with us on go longboarding day and had no real issues with the speed, alot of them are very very keen to race proper DH, this is a very light course but still challenges the guys who have some race experience (myself, juan ching, gilbert etc etc) its not just my race, its the start of a series, the only way i think that course that everyone is suggesting would be good is if we decided to do some sort of GS on the flat section of the track which could work. this weekend will tell and if on the day we see guys crashing alot in practice then we can change the track if needs be
  • Aston Cochrane

i agree with fendy, those runs at fitzroy are the best and you can go fast, i would like to see some crazy all in races too like in the car park but then again me and ellery arent all that into the safety issues, hahaha. but all that aside we'd be keen to race anywhere with anyone. would love some twighlight races at fitzy though.

  • Premium Member

    Ching

that can be arranged aston :) i miss fitzroy so badly!

  • Premium Member

    sean meaney

hey i am down for fitzy races too, if this one at flagstaff works the idea is that we can have one every 3-6 months each race getting harder and harder, the next location we have talked about if this one works is fitzy which would be fucking dope to race, ching you get back next thursday right? i say friday night bombing and beers
  • Gilbert

"this is a very light course but still challenges the guys who have some race experience (myself, juan ching, gilbert etc etc)"

you dont have race experience you chickened out at newtons. you havent changed sean, you're still saying things that aren't true to make yourself sound good to the newer guys.

but im giving you the benefit of the doubt one last time, i havent seen you skate in awhile so maybe you have stepped up even if a little we'll see when I get back.

and yes its your event like chings said, so have it the way you want it, team melburn will be there to support it, any event is better than none.
  • JeSSSe

Has anyone seen a guy with an old-skool deck with 150mm randals (i think) and 75mm o-tangs around the Sanderingham train line???

  • Premium Member

    sean meaney

gilbert, i been skating this sort of stuff long enough to know what a good run is, mate if you guys hate the course you can race what you want, i aint keen on ever racing again, i never said i was racing this event and i doubt i will, i have tried to set something that will be fun for guys with abit of skill, sorry i included myself in that group, fuck after all this bullshit i am sorry i tried to do something for the local scene.
  • Oscar

Dude sean, GS on the flat part after the big right hand would be SIIIICK! I think that is a great idea.

And yeah what Fendy said about the west side of Fitzy with the big left hander at the bottom is another good one to race.
  • jason treloar

hey jesseee yer ihve seen him i got to sandy VCE campus oh and jesse do you want my other board cause that u liked cause if you dont ill sell it to someone else. (gilbert, sean, ching and anyone else) ill be along for any event in march?, ill bring my cameraaaa and shit to take photos and see if we can get it in like a newspaper or something promoting the sport or some jazz like that. and might have a skate to. just decide what the course is gonna be its not that hard to decide
  • Oscar

But you have to do the GS with bins, cause it would cause more mayhem and awkward crashes.

And we can fit G into them.
  • Oscar

And people saying that crashing isnt good for the new guys, i think thats a load of crap. This is an extreme sport, crashing happens... Lots. If people cant handle that then DH longboarding obviously isnt for them.
  • stephen.mhsrider

yeah jesse ive seen him, he gets on at my station i think
  • JeSSSe

Jason if you meen the pintail you built then yes... how much??? Becuase that deck it sick!!!
  • jason treloar

hey man yer the pintail one well ill give you the dimenstions its 40inch long and about 9 and a half inch long. if you really want it man ill get it grip-taped for you.
well ive sent you numerous comments and shit so comment on my page dude and we can work out a price.
  • jason treloar

haha that'll be sick! dh til that right turn then gs the flat bit then back into a dh run again! would make for a pretty interesting race if you ask me ;)

jason, definitely watch out for all the sessions. make sure you make sean's race it'll be cool to hang out with as many as the local guys.

ah good times, everyone picking on sean, sean getting upset. fuck this here fuck you there. this is what melbourne sessions is about!
