Glad Bugs hit me up to rejoin. Had totally forgot about it. Must be time I bought my first Stand Up or Slalom Board. Suggestions for a oldish grom.......trikes
Cool - great post by Leah, thanks for the link Bernie. Reading it took me back to my first encounters with slalom and what it felt like, having been a street skater in my younger years.
Very cool bernie makes me wanna try it. My new deck I'm making is a 22-20 inch wb beast that might be good for a little crossover. But I'll be wiggling on super loose Paris 195?haha? Wiggle to commute. Rain sux!
Hey Bugs, I'm pretty sure my membership has expired for the last financial year and I need to renew. How do I check? Also and if so, can I pay renewal fees to Robbo or anyone else at Hopshop tomorrow?
Dan, I agree it can be difficult and inconvenient when the location is not openly divulged, but when people keep that info quiet they're doing so for good reasons (legal and safety). Private communication with the organiser is often all it takes to find out the location.
hi guys its a bit pathetic that the commentary crew at newton have to act like groms and have sarcastic digs at luge shows how childish some are. and who decided not show luge this morning. very lame guys
Murrah, the commentators and camera crew have a really hard job to do to entertain the online viewers. Without the massive amount of these viewers sponsors are going to be less likely to continuously get involved in the event.
Unfortunately when the luge were on track and shown views considerably decreased. At this stage a large part is about keeping the viewers happy unfortunately.
The main commentator (Bricin) has always said shit about luge - in fact he's massively toned it down since the days when he used to encourage everybody attending to boo whenever a luger rode the track.
These days he's tame. He's also a fairly equal-opportunity hater; everybody cops it. Some skaters had stuff said about them that although witty was far worse than anything said about lugers as a group.
Another thing - nobody at the event pays too much attention to the shit he says, partly cos they're having too much fun riding the track, and partly cos it's so obvious that he's not a mean-spirited guy, even when he's talking shit. Ask the Lugers who attended Newtons how they feel about it. They made a point of coming up to me to disown the criticism of Bricin's commentary coming from that particular section of their own community.
From an ASRA perspective we go to a lot of trouble to accommodate luge in the face of commercial forces that wish it gone, and in the face of a luge community whose numbers are dwindling and sometimes seem dominated by people hostile to us.
As for the question of "who decided not to show luge on Saturday?" - the answer is the TV crew. Two reasons - there was no luge racing on Saturday, only practice, and secondly they wanted to maximise ratings and they can see that the ratings drop off when luge is broadcast.
