  • Premium Member

    m0juu

    needs dolphin pads

  • Premium Member

    The Dave

I assume your dolphin uses one of the boards that has dropped into the harbour at Circular Quay...

  • Premium Member

    m0juu

have you tried the new seashell bearings?

  • Premium Member

    James

Perry uses a variety of bearings depending on the current. Mr Perry's lawyers advises Perry not to comment on any boards he may or may not have picked up becuase of stupid groms, Cough olly Cough,

Ok i heard about bomb squad from a few guys but ive never actually gone. Is it free? and how many people end up turning up?

  • ASRA Admin

    Bugs

There's no money involved, but it'll cost you blood, skin, and possibly your sanity.

    m0juu

normal nights about 12 ish people this week just 5, it was so wierd bring a lid and gloves

  • Daniel Sinanian

Sounds sick. How many people normally show up?

  • Daniel Sinanian

bad news: i dont actually own a helmet and im strapped for kash. I know that its not right to ride without one, but i just havent had the money.
  • Timothy Shu

If you can't afford a helmet, ask your parents. After all, they will end up paying for your brain surgery,

yer it was pretty funny this week eh? not enough stoke
  • Remy

How necessary are gloves?  I'm wearing wrist pads atm, and am not really anywhere near good enough to go sliding yet...

  • Premium Member

    The Dave

Pretty simple - don't go until you can. Bombsquad is not the place to learn the basics, it's the place to progress.
  • Timothy Shu

Gloves are 100% necessary, because you're going to need them for everything. If you cant slide yet, you'll need them to protect your hands when you fall.

Minimum gear is Helmet and Gloves. Secondary gear is a skateboard.

  • ASRA Admin

    Bugs

You don't need to slide to go to Bomb Squad, but if you can't slide you do need to be able to footbrake.

Wrist guards will do if footbraking, but gloves are still better.

  • Remy

Dave R - how would you recommend I learn to slide?  Other people are saying that bomb squad is for every level of skater....

  • Premium Member

    Alex 'maddog' Shaw

Remy, it is. but as Bugs said. Know how yto either shutdown slide or footbrake........if you can do either of these ok, come and you will learn how to do it better as you get taught or watch and learn....also, alot of people come and then realise that we push everywhere, make sure you can keep up the pace  :P

Easiest way to learn is to do......if you have a small hill, go slide it, practice sliding to a stop, or get your footbraking technique down-pat.   Or, find someone who lives near you and hit them up for a skate...and learn, ask questions.....

    m0juu

i find it hhard to learn the basics alone, start a thread and see if you can organise a session for newbies and convince an experienced rider in your area to show you the ropes

  • Premium Member

    Kelly Carter

    Footbraking first, sliding after
  • Daniel Sinanian

do you guys meet up during the holidays?

  • Premium Member

    The Dave

I stand by what I said. SCBS is NOT the place to learn how to stop. People who told you it's for all skill levels were wrong. You need to be able to handle yourself. If you can't control your speed or pull an emergency stop, then riding fast with a group in the city at night is potentially going to get you badly hurt or even killed. I think people are forgetting that bombsquad is actually pretty dangerous (or has it got really lame and safe since my injury?).

I taught myself shutdown slides on my own well before I turned up and I still got smashed into carpark walls repeatedly for weeks.

Go to youtube, watch some Kyle Chin or Colton slide tutorials and then practice on a quiet hill until you can stop in a hurry. That's what I did.

Haha, Dave it still gets a bit interesting at times  :P Especially Chucky Hunter and I in Opera House the other night....car and ped dodging , was crazy....almost smashed into 2 Mercs and a Beemer  :P

And knowing how to stop like that, will definately help, like Dave said, youcan get badly hurt, or even killed in extreme situations.....You have to remeber that we are sharing the roads with cars and sometimes dont realise that we are there, or dont care. I have smashjed into cars pulling out cause they decided not to see me, and footbraking has saved me alot, changing an injury from a possible break to just a bruise....

  • Joshua (sasquatch) Stephens

hey alex remember that time at opera where i ended up in the wall, with 4 other guys taken out by the board? i lold

dudes, u gotta be a capable rider. be able to handle yourself AND your board.

  • Premium Member

    The Dave

It's like the Matrix - everyone bodyslams the OHCP wall on their first run.....

  • Joshua (sasquatch) Stephens

    XD

    Pure win, nuff said, prof

  • owen carless

are freeborders allowed to bomb squad, being a different breed and all? pushing a freebord is pretty wack, would i have trouble keeping up on the flats?
  • Timothy Shu

Lol freeboards, i suppose why not?

  • Premium Member

    Phil Bartlett

haha if you think pushing is wack on it you wont want to be riding it at bomb squad.
  • Timothy Shu

Let's not jump to any conclusions about freeboards, but bomb squads actually does a lot of pushing to get up to the bige hills, and between session hills so don't be expecting anything less than 50% push time.

  • Premium Member

    Lea Robbo

Agreed, between bombing SCBS is very much a pushing affair.  A lot of terrain is covered so you want to be relatively comfy pushing your board
  • owen carless

let me elaborate, i don't have problems pushing on a freebord, the only problem would be keeping up with longboarders cos you just can't get the same consistent speed on the flats. however, i love bombing the city so someone suggested trying the bomb squad. thursdays are a problem for me atm anyway. you ever do any other nights?

  • Richard Alley

give it a shot, if its too hard/different/what ever, go home

otherwise stick around and rock n roll

  • Joshua (sasquatch) Stephens

    lol freeboarding scbs

  • owen carless

    something funny about freebording?
