  • Matt

dylan where do you get you bags from

  • Premium Member

    Matthys

    carbatech bags work fine

they have a 14" by 44" bag, and that worked great for me...

  • Premium Member

    Steve

14 by 44 are fine for small street or slalom boards. Good luck trying to fit a longboard and mold in there. You will need the larger 20" by 70" bag for longboards

  • Premium Member

    Matthys

mate, i built a 39 inch topmount that came from a 40" mold with that bag..

im not saying you have heaps of room, but theres plenty enough for me to cope..

  • Louis Tragear

i made my topmount/speedboard in a 40" by 14"inch bag..that had a round end and my mould was thick.. up to you though

  • Premium Member

    Steve

Sure, an exeperienced builder like yourself will be able to make that work. Your average 1 off builder would be much better off with the large bag. Especially with builds longer than 39"  Anything longer than that just won't fit once you include the mold. The larger bag just makes things  A LOT easier even if it is 39" or shorter...

Also another tip - If your buying one from roarockit get the valve positioned on the side, not in the centre as is standard ( you can request this ). Great for when doing composite work. It won't leave the valve indentation in your glass or fibre finish..

when using a bag press do you need to put a peel ply sheet over it so the glue wont stick to the bag?

here is a different topic other than vac bagging.

the gass pedals on a wolf shark what angle are they in repect to the deck does any one have a rough idea, i habe looked at pics and they look about 45 degrees.

i was gunna mod my skatement top mount to include a set.

lets se pics of these gas pedals derm
  • SteveC

Bags should be made from a material that epoxy and polyurethane won't bond to.

Most bags are I believe. polyethylene for example hates 99.9% of glues.

  • Max Heaton

im dermotts friend that ramped up the pedals with a jigsaw. very difficult to do, and the finshed result really needs to be perfected and sanded down. maybe in future after dermott and i finish and perfect the MDM we will make a freeride version but this one is being built hopefully for BTB.
  • Max Heaton

    true derms, to true.
  • rory

    thanks steve,
any one know were to get foam from in brisbane area??

  • Matt

Yeah it is called Austech on Kingsford Smith Drive and it cost like 50 bucks for a sheet like 50 mm thick which makes 4 inserts

    Nice one!

  • Max Heaton

soooo.....dermott and i started our press today, finished the final touches...aaaannddddd........it didn't work. DUCT TAPE WORKS! we wrapped a whole role of it around the mould and 2 sheets of ply. tomorrow sometime we will add the other 2 pieces so we have a full board. now we wait to see if it actually works.
  • Jack Wroe

I'm going to be making a board with my friend next weekend and I need to know this.

Where can I get the materials? Where in Canberra?

What do I need to make it?

    How much will it cost?
  • Jack Wroe

    Be realistic. How much money?
  • Jack Wroe

    So what's the actual price?

  • Premium Member

    Adam

Jack it will cost you between 50 and 150 depending on what you pit into the build. Read every page in this group take notes read between the lines. Then ask questions. Early on I asked heaps of questions so did matthys so the answers are there already. Crew get REALLY sick of answering the same questions.
Now get on the phone with the yellow pages look up plywood and hardware and start asking around for costs.
  • Matt

would anyone buy a used roarockit vacuum. Used a few times just has glue in it. If in brisbane can also buy foam inserts
  • rory
