for any one who has made/modified a board. post some pics of your press or completed boards, its all good.
also, maybe share some tips on building and where to get supplies
also, occasionally, we can have a build off from time to time...
Hey guys i weigh 60kgs and i was thinking
of making a deck with a w concave out of baltic birch,
would 3x4mm be fine with a layer of fibreglass top and bottom?
Been making a mould this weekend... damn it takes ages to carve out the shape! I used two 90mm posts and attacked with saws, planes and belt sander. Should come out quite nice, will post up pics in the build thread when done... its a bit different.
Fiber glass from supercheap is fine, but overpriced. Pretty sure bunnings have FG round the paint/builders filler section. They have kits or just seperate elements. Find a nice tight even weave so it looks nice :)
This is ridiculous I have materials rad board design ideas but it is so wet I can't even find a place to get the tools out to make a new mould. Or is that mould (black furry kind) When the weather clear look out. Veneer, Fibreglass, power tools, welding, concrete... Anyone got a CNC cutting rig they don't need. Ha.
Yellow pages and start asking there are a few companies on the coast mister ply kinda park has gone broke. That has been answered on this forum. Pretty sure I have before. Read every page. I'm serious every page it's full of gold just make the effort to dig.
it was a local guy. he said it was a grade veneer and good for boards. i can't remember the name but he said a few people had bought it off him for board building. i am now contacting a couple other companies that are local ( sharp plywood and a few others)
hey guys, i was reading on silverfish and i saw that people put carbon fiber/fibre glass on the board then into a vacumm bag, does anyone know where to get the stuff that goes ontop to stop the vacumm bad touching the wet resin? thanks

as long as you put some decent concave in.

Did you mean fibreglass from bunnings is fine? People have said to me that the fibreglass from bunnings is bad

fiberglass from bunnings is bad, because the cloth is bad quality, and the resin is poly, not epoxy.

wow, glueing a few veneers at a time using the vac bag is sooo time consuming.
however, patience usually pays off.

ok, a little late but better than never...
i only aim for a 12mm drop, so it's rather subtle.
and, instead of having 'pockets' i've kept concave on the entire platform area.

were did you get the foam?
what did you cut it with?
thanks

i get the foam from a place called 'foam international' (or something similar), they are in Braeside.
i use a home built hot wire cutter for most of the foam shaping, you can check it out here

what are you guys paying for veneer?
does 70 dollars sound about right?
Feb 14, 2011
H_Can
having only ever bought shortboard sized veneers i'd guess that for longboard size that wouldnt be to far off the mark.
where you getting that price from?
i only ever tracked down briggs as a maple veneer source here...
but i did recently dig up some info on a few guys in tassie that look like promising sources for some fancy 1.5mm tassie hardwood veneers

extruded polystyrene, 'rigid insulation foam'.
if you're in the 3000s try solid solutions or foam international.
oh and btw, fitzs deal looks great, if i was near him i'd pay it for the jacks and molds alone.
