g'day everyone. I'm going to check out some locations soon for awesome skate spots. I was going to look around the donvale area, west of springvale road, theres a massive residential area and it's all placed on a series of hills, all the pavement is smooth. anyone let me know if they're familiar with the area or wanna come out to check it with me. if its good to skate, theres a 10 minute bus ride from nunawading station on the belgrave/lilydale lines.
I know its not Melburn related, but my band 'Merrygorounds' are playing at the Blue Tile Lounge on the 19th of feb at 8pm. Be there nice and early and you'll get a hug.
Also, im kind of craving a skate. What are people doing this week?
yeah i me, dan and simon the freeborder went and it was good. I finish at 12 every day besides friday this week if you want to go skate or have a nigh sesh during the week let me know man, you got my number. I will probobly be at the gig as usual bringing my dance and drunk game to the party
you cant keep the pucks jason, i need those because nippon is going to buy the gloves from me, i am able to skate any day besides friday, so hows thursday work for you in the city?
ahhhh alrigthy ill give u the pucks back, where did u get them from?
also yea i might i was more thinking friday becasuse then i wont have to go back early.
hey jesse, Hemleys skate in fitzroy is your best bet for longboard gear, they stock just about everything and if they dont have it there they can get it.
i cant wait ching, its been getting small no sunday nights, though we got some new spots to ride so get ready for that shit, one of them gilbert is going to have to try the drop at (ledge drop on on the sorta hairpin turn in a carpark)
notes on the hemley situation, its looking like a big launch for this thing to get some stoke going, there will be a vid, there will be a drinks sponsor and there will be proddy given out, there is also a chance of some racing going on at flagstaff gardens for the opener
racing in early march with hemleys, some vids, some food some drinks and some product up for grabs to those who can race. easy track good times early start
Sick! We'll have to do flagstaff legit though, you reckon we can get it passed through melb coucil?
Yeah spoke to Hemley the other day over the phone about ordering in a landy, they seem pretty rad & more than happy to help out. So i'll probably spend a bit of money with 'em
yo, just a note about the shop (i was in there today) they will match any price on gear thats legit. Law states that so long as we are not endangering life then we are allowed to skateboard in the gardens, no matter our speeds padding etc, I doubt you will need a permit to run a couple of heats there more to the point, there is no intention of a permit being obtained by the sounds of it, its just a bunch of guys running some two man heats with no blocking off or barriers being set up. The date that is penciled in is the 6th of march at around 4pm for the kick off with food and drinks at hemleys before we head over to flagstaff gardens to do some racing
jan, i own an evo and its a great board, if you want we are having a ride at flagstaff gardens at 12, if you want to try a few boards it would be a good chance for you to do so
I reckon i'd be a bit more at ease seeing these laws. I had a quick look on melb city councils website today on the off chance that we pull 150 people we'd have to get an event permit. Nothing is really specified skating wise on melb councils site, but you get the general idea they discourage it.
I don't care man i'll still skate it. Just want to make sure we've got all bases covered.
It would be a shame for melb longboarders or Hemley for that matter to get a bad rap & shit the general public off on our first 'do'
ye im reallly considering the evo now, wont be able to go though but, what wheels are u rolling sean? do flywheels grip good? and slide if you wnat them to?
i reckon flagstaff is doable. as long as you avoid the peak hours where everyone is walking to the train station (weekdays lunch hour and evening). im assuming we'll be using the same run as our "first race" there sean? you just need a spotter at the first right turn and then another at the left turn.
it's a good place for beginners the speeds are slow and plenty of soft grass to break your fall.
ching, we are not using that run, (i cant remember what we used but i think its different) we may hold it at fitzroy gardens, tomorrow's test racing at both locations will tell, we will have designated spotters etc at the event, its a saturday night kicking off at about 5.30-6.30 with a few beers being dropped pre race (good equaliser as most of the better guys love a beer)
tomorrow we are setting the course, after tomorrow it will be set in concrete unless major issues arise on the day of racing (ie rain as on a few of the courses that could make it too dangerous for the young riders) If you can make it down to give your oppinion please do (sorry to the OS guys you dont get a say) we are kicking off at 11am at flagstaff gardens. In regards to rules, EVERY RIDER NEEDS A HELMET AND GLOVES, Knee pads thick jeans full face helmets and even some leather are recomended for the race as there will be groms flying around which could get hairy for those who are trying to pass coming into the last turn. There will be judges around the course and every race will be filmed incase of any intentionally dangerous riding that may occour so guys please keep it safe (yes this is coming from me) you will be able to whinge after the race and challenge the result if someone push's you or appears to intentionally impeed your riding and is not disqualified by one of the judges on the spot. Up for grabs are some Loaded Gloves, O-tang Wheels and some gear from Hemleys.
Jan, I roll Pink Big Zigs they are grippy as all hell but a touch slow, Fendy Rides Flys on an evo and loves them, your best bet is to talk to him about those wheels as i have never ridden them.
In short be at flagstaff tomorrow if you can or else you may be upset with the setup for racing so i encourage anyone who can make it to please do so
SEAN. bad news man
pictures of u jumping can out like a blurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. gotta do them again someday. but ill post up the pic of u manualing and the star jump:P
dom we will be at flagstaff for ages, my number is 0400083729, the only way we wont be there is if me and juan are running late (good odds of it happening)
