This is a group for W.A riders to join, so we can organise skate meets, downhill runs, carpark runs, city runs, Rottnest island runs and comps... all welcome.. lets get the ball rolling to build gatherings as held on the east coast....
Hey Lads...and ladies, where can I go to buy quality longboard gear in West Oz? Loaded gear, orang wheels, swiss bones etc... my current set up is creaking now
I sold my freebord within 2 days on Seabreeze.com.au for $300.
It's pretty damn good, and it was a free listing also, just post in some of the forums at the same time for more coverage...
yeh the dervish will be faster to sell coz its just better.. hehe
yeh and im always interested,, i just dont have enough money now so yeh.. im still saving up
Hey Christopher - what flex is your dervish and why are you selling it to get a Tan Tien? I have a Tan Tien and its great but actually fairly similar to a dervish
hrm, got into trouble going to work this morning. Got clocked at 40+ in a 40 zone (Also doubling as a school crossing) on Beaufort street.
However, They yelled at me, I stopped (foot break) much to their surprise, Used the "Don't I have the same rights as bikes" defense and was told to move on :)
He did confirm that I may ride on un-marked roads, but not on main roads such as Beaufort street.
raine dave and i were skitching around botanical gardens in sydney when the ranger decided to drive through and tell us to fuck off, fun morning! and dave got a nice warm welcome which just happened to fall down from above and stick to his shirt. hahaha
Hey, I just joined up. I'm keen for a skate whenever I'm not working, haven't hit up a car park before so be real interested if you's do that regular?? Rangers at kings park are haters and dervish is very decent board- I got flex 1... Just to stay relevant to the recent posts
hey chris.. 2 of my mates have tantiens, flex one and flex two..
they are really great boards but have a SLIGHTLY shorter standing platform..
u wont go wrong... the nose and tail really lock yerr feet in when doing those manuals and and nosies, adam stokowski even did a frickn tre flip with the tail which u cant do on a dervish.. u can just throw it around more because its got that longer nose and tail.. hell good board..
im getting a dervish coz i want something with a longer standing platform, something thats light and easy to throw around, and none of my mates have a dervish so i wanna be the one tht has one..
I'm using the standard randal bushings on my board, I've toyed with a few other cheapie bushings but as my tan tien is flex 3 (quite flexy) it has a fair bit of flex and carvyness and give without needing really carvey bushings.
one thing ive noticed recently is that when i get speed sometimes the board 'floats' and changes direction fairly easily without my consent.. im not sure if this is because ive put some soft risers up top to lower it that reduce the predictability or what, its a bit like speed wobbles but different..anyone else experienced this? its like your board floats and changes direction all of a sudden
Paul, with respect to boards 'floating'. I have found that the more flexible the board, the less stable it is at speed (or the more it will float at speed). The tan tien scares me at running speed, and how you ride yours as fast as you do I will never work out :)
Its easy to see, you just stand on your board and put your front heal and your back toes into the board (then swap from toe to heal and vice versa). Watch it flex. As it flexes note that the board and wheels are still pointing forwards but the angle that your trucks are at is changing. I believe this is the floating. I have noticed that the stiffer the board, the more stable it is as you get faster.
On top of that, stability has a lot to do with kingpin angles. 40 Degree is more stable the 52. Just try running a 40 degree base plate (should be all of $25) at the back and you would be surprised how much more stable it is once you start going fast. That and throw your standard bushings out and get some good ones. two in every durometer. Play with them a bit and you will find something you like. If your board has a front and a back, put the stiffer bushings in the back. Also, always have the harder bushing closest to the deck.
heya chris
so is that final? ur not selling yerr board anymore?
if thats so then its aight,, i might just get a vendetta or 9two5 or maybe just a brand new dervish or evan the new loaded bhangra..
i just need a board to throw around and practice my bigspins and oldschool tre flips..(but its gonna be hard if i get a bhangra)
haha cool no worries bruu!
the dervish is a pretty good board!
hehe
defs put venom shrs on..iv got a set of cone shrs for carving and barrels for DH.. great bushings with heaps of pop and gets me back in line...
i havnt tried the venom supercarves but i think the cone shr bushings would be better for carving and stuff..
iv only tried the khiro cones and the venom shr cones and i defs recommend it..
i think the shrs are the upgrades to the supercarves.. not sure tho
chris, i read that they made an upgrade to the old venom bushings.. they are now shrs.. the plain ol 'supercarves' have the old urethane in em and they have new supercarves which are s.h.r. theyr called 'venom shr supercarves'
check hopkin bruu..
hehe
Anyone wana take the newby for a skate? My bro sent me over a dervish with a set of slide wheels so I have you tubed some free riding stuff and have been giving it a bit of a bash but would love to see some guys in action followed by the inaugral bevy. I live in mossy park but I stay in scarbs a bit too.
Hey Murray, theres a regular push skate and beer session in scarbs on wednesday nights. Your welcome to join us.
As it turns out, some of the hills are fast and can mess un-experienced riders up, so it will be up to you to know which hills you should walk down. Quite a few of the hills are however nice and long and cruzy. PM me if you want to join us. We are happy to show you the ropes and give you some pointers.
Craig Bond 4th in consolation final.Does this mean 8th overall ? congratulations to you Craig.. big effort. up against the best in the world! yehaaaa.......
Skate in Scarbs tonight. Meet at the shops on the corner of St Brigids Terrace and Fulford St, Scarborough at 8:00pm. Push down to the Indy bar via a few hills and some slide spots, Drink some beer, have a smoke. Push back and one or two other runs. It will be fun!!!
after seeing the gnar at newtons (onya boys!) i just had to go to peace hill today and bomb from the very very top :) ....held on for my dear life lol... ha ha... no stacks.. knee is still a little twitchy though.. hopefully i'll be out this weekend or the next to catch up and get my riding back into gear... still not sure bout the knee though.. will see how it feels
