out of those options I reckon Bennett front seismic rear.
However randal 125 with a wedged 35* plate is my choice for beginners.
  • Lucas

hey fitz would u say bennet on front. or randal front and back ? Also were would u recommend buying from ? i was looking at sk8kings and they seem to have a lot of slalom gear

Oops. I meant Bennett front Randal back.
I can hook you up with everything but the deck if you like.
I have a complete setup ready to roll. Trucks used once. Wheels and bearing never used.

Hi Lucas check out http://www.boardshop.com.au/servlet/the-2654/SK8KINGS-AXE-II-ULTIMA... for a good deal on a slalom deck.

  • Lucas

hey so i have been on the search for my first slalom board. i come up on subsonic boards they look amazing. has any used them. I am interested in this one http://www.subsonicskateboards.com/?q=Killroy-33. would u guys say that is suitable for slalom ?

  • Mark Gorman

Looks like a good board , you could set it up for a few types of style, price is ok , how much for postage

That's a copy of a proven killer board, The Pavel Roadster.

It's actually an improvement aswell with the wedge block on the tail.

Subsonic have been around for a while now and make very well designed, top shelf quality boards.

If shipping is reasonable I say buy it.

    P.S.

Make sure you go for flex 3.

Contrary to popular belief, flex in a slalom board doesn't help pump. If anything it wastes energy you're trying to get to the wheels.

Nuthin wrong with that deck for slalom.

I've loved looking at the subsonic site as i have toyed with the idea of a pulse LDP (decided there are too many dogs around where i live to do LDP) but I've never noticed that board. He has it listed under kick tail boards which I guess I never clicked. It looks a better slalom shape than the one listed in the slalom section. Yeah let us know if you get a shipping quote.
  • Lucas

so i was looking u can customise the board a lot. You can add a composite layer of either carbon fiber or fiber glass and also a layer of Texalium.  If you choose to buy a complete board shipping comes out to be 85 bucks, however if you get just the deck shipping comes down to 69 bucks. If any one eles was wanting a board we could talk about splitting the shipping.

  • Lucas

Hey so i talked to scott the guy at subsonic he was saying that we could customise that board and even add foam to make it lighter and all. if any one is interested

Lucas, we need to get you doing slalom before you start spending too much.

Get to Allawah on 17th March.  There will be plenty of boards for you to try, and some serious slalom nerds (they all know who they are!) to help you with understanding the types of equipment used, and the mystery of the Pump
(or if I could get there ...the un-pump!).

You will get far more value out of being there....than posting here!

As to what deck is appropriate.....
there are some here that used to smoke everyone else on reshaped paddle pops!

  • Lucas

i will make my way up there for sure. i live at wollongong so i can just get the train. thanks for the tip bernei.

If you have limited cash (like most people) then I'd recommend spending it on fancy trucks rather than a fancy deck. Especially a front truck like a Radikal or GOG - in slalom that's the thing that makes the biggest difference equipment-wise once you've got the basics covered.

  • Lucas

i must say gog's look beautiful, but i just want to start i will keep looking around for used gear. I will be sure to head to Allawah to get some tips :)

I would look for equipment in this order : wheels, trucks then deck. It is so hard to find high end trucks that if some G.O.G s turned up just buy them. Here is another good slalom deck with free postage. http://www.cre8ivesk8.com.au/default.asp?PageID=54&CatID=79&...

I got Lucas covered for everything but the deck. I think that's why he's been hunting for a plank.

  • Premium Member

    Fitz

stick with 70mm zigz. more agile but still plenty big enough for speed.

  • Ben freifeld

They look nice. Expensive, but nice. I like the ABS nose, but why didn't they include an ABS tail?

  • Ben freifeld

Check this location out for an event, 1 hour from Sydney, No traffic at all. Bugs?

  • Ben freifeld

    More pics

  • Mark Gorman

Ben the hills look great , looking forward to the 26th,  the GS one looks the goods, that T intersection on the  Ts looks a bit sus for a tight

  • Ben freifeld

I have skated there on a weekday with no traffic problems. Sunday seems to be perfect. And we could try out both hills anyway.

  • Ben freifeld

UPDATE; just setup an RTS on the rear with 90a SHR and 86a Elims. Very good traction, much faster than the cut-down gunmetals. I'm Ready for the 26th now.

  • Mark Gorman

Not the cars Ben ,just the speed factor , looks like you could be  1/2  a km down the road to wash off you speed, thats if we all make the corner lol

  • Ben freifeld

Good point, We'll just have to wait and see..

  • Lucas

This new competition is all i need to see some slalom in action. I have been saving up to make a setup. Even though  i will just be watching, i am more then willing to help.

  • ASRA Admin

    bernie

    Lucas,

There are always enough spare boards, so you can borrow a board on the day and have a go.

  • Ben freifeld

Yeah Lucas, you can learn allot just by watching, asking questions and borrowing lots of different setups. I will 100% lend you my board for a couple of runs.

  • Mark Gorman

Checking out some new trucks anyone ever used Radikal dragon claws or breath combo

  • Ben freifeld

I've ridden a board with a claw, felt nice, but gogs felt better. Thats just my opinion though....should try em both.

  • Boomerdog

I gotta claw on my Kowalski gs, surfy feel on the rear..you know what I'd recommend though..starts in g & ends in g...lol.. ;)

if you get GOG's you won't die wondering. Radicals are hard to work on. But I have lost to plenty of people on Trackers and Bennetts.

  • ASRA Admin

    Bugs

A Radikal Claw has the same geometry and is virtually identical to a GOG Classic. I doubt anybody could tell the difference riding them. The Radikals have a better axle design (less likely to snap), but if you use large centre-set wheels they can bite the baseplate - I've never had a problem running BigZigs with them though.

A GOG Foxy has the advantage of being able to change baseplate angles, which I would really like, as I like to use the same deck for every course, but change angles depending on the speed/tightness.

  • Premium Member

    Fitz

Radikal are great. Once they're dialed in you may never adjust them again for GS and Hybrid.

You'll either have fun or get a major case of the shits dialing in. Wedges and deck bolts are often a challenge. Adjustable angle plates certainly make life alot simpler.

  • Boomerdog

the  draw back with the radikal is you have to unwind the kingpin every time you have to  take the hanger off, the kingpin is recommended to be loctited back in & the titanium kingpin is recommended to be changed every 12 months due to the flex in it, I found this one out as my kingpin snapped clean in the baseplate a few months ago mid run at top speed...scary shit to loose the whole hanger on the road...horses for courses though..everyone's decision is gonna be different...
