Adam,if you're still after trucks I could do a bennett/randal combo to trade with your caliber's. there's a couple of options as I have a few spare bits eg 4.3 bennet with a spherical mod or 5.0 (I'd pref to keep this one), 125 or 150 randal with 42 baseplate. pm if you're keen
Ben can you pm me the options.
The deck I have made is just under 10 inches wide 30 long. I overdosed on wheel base options. Two options at the back and four at the front. Each set 1/2 an inch apart smallest wheel base 19 and longest is 21.5.
It just needs sand to shape and wheel wells. So it's kinda a mini long board crossed with a wide slalom board.
So the reason I say all that is to let you know what kinda rig it is. So I think the wider the hanger option the better. I was offered a set of trackers but they were 106 and I think they would be to narrow. But any slalom tech heads can tell me I'm wrong if they like.
Last dribbling question I have a few sets of reflex barrels but only a few venom ones, obviously the Randals will work with reflex but will the front ones?
Remember I'm totally non slalom educated.
I like the sound of that, you going to post some photo's?
The 5.0 bennett and 125 randal have the same width, so go with those and 42 baseblate. bit of wedge & dewedge and you have a decent start. The barrels should be ok for the rear, but the bennets need cones, i've been using soft khiros that are cheap and seem ok to me but maybe someone else here can give better advice on that.
Ben let's do it I assume we swap addresses and post off the trucks.
Let's keep it simple. No mounting hardware or bushings just the hangers baseplates an washers. I assume the trucks are in goo working order. Te calls are brand new just a little scratch on one side of each hanger.
As far as pics of the new disco biscuit. If you like skatement speedboards on Facebook you will see it there. I will post pics of it on Asra whn it's fully finished.
No problem Ad's. You ended up getting the best option anyway. 5" wide trucks are much more versatile yet still turny enough to have some slalom fun. I have no use for calibres so it looks like 2 people are winners.
Why make trucks from cast steel? I would have thought lighter being the better option. Aluminium can be cast and then hardened to be just like 6 series billet used in most precisions.
Casting a blank and then machining the bush, pivot and axles is all thats required for a high end performance truck. The rest is all just looks and marketing.
take a look at your user image bugs.
For a first time slalomer 125 trucks are fine. Esp with the size board he wants to use without having to buy another one.
whats goin on pumpin dudes. if i take my slalom board with trucks, wheels and wedges to hoppy will they sets it up for me with bushings and such? cheers, dude
Dude find ash donaldson on here he offered me a set of slalom trucks to buy off him for 50 RTS RTX combo, trackers. they are the 106 hangers they would be 100 times as good at those. they have a specific angle for the front and the back truck, specially for slalom.
you'll be pushing shit uphill with a pointy stick using those trucks with just a bush change. Those trucks are made for park and street skate riders.
RTS/RTX are a good entry level but still need 2x wedge front 2x dewedge back as per the randal wedging guide
They can be had for cheap. It seems the local price has crept up alot since the last time I checked even though our dollar is high (go figure?). Shop around or even better buy em 2nd hand. I'm sure someone will be looking to offload in the process of upgrading.
A bush change will also be needed as the tracker stock bushes are completely dead.
Ok so first ride on the disco biscuit today Bennett's two yellow reflex barrels and a bear washer on front randal 42 wedged up7 degrees at the back two dark orange reflex barrels. Will let you all know. Feels super loose and turny. 21.5 wb setting. Wiggle n PUMP!!!!!
Wow. Felt gumby at first but when I got on a slight down slope it just flew. Need a toe stop but I am grinning. Any advice on the set up would be sweet. Oh back truck is dark orange reflex board side and great venom road side I forgot this morning.
Throw your body weight into it when you're pumping. That'll get your speed up quicker.
Sounds like you're setup pretty good though.
Find somewhere with immaculate surface like fresh hot-mix in a new estate or even netball courts and you will really appreciate flatland riding. Rough surface slalom sucks.
So I'm weaving and body pumping like I'm on my surf board building up speed to Smack the lip. Accelerating on th flat till I hit a rad wind haha.
I tried to search but no luck. Cone spacing???? Ease don't say half hour or so;^)
To help set a good course without making a big mess, build it in stages.
Intro, body and end of course.
Start the course relatively close with an intro of 5 cones at about 5ft.
My feet are just over exactly 1ft so its easy to heel-to-toe step and count. I never measure with tape.
For the body of the course, open them up to 6ft for another 5-6 cones. As a beginner keep them in a relatively straight line and mark a small dot with chalk.
Practice what you have laid out and you can make small adjustments without making a big confusing mess of chalk marks on the road and not have to rebuild a big course.
Lay down some more of the body for another 6 cones and open them out to 7 or 8ft if required. You might find you're really hauling ass esp if there's an incline. If its flat you can keep it about 6-7ft.
Once you've got your course built you can chalk in the cones you want to lock.
Only chalk a half circle on the side of the cone you go around.
Mark an arrow around one side of the first cone as a reminder which side to start the course.
Chalking one half helps you adjust to make offsets for a more challenging course.
I actually only use 3 dots instead of a half circle. Front back and one side of cone. It leaves less mess esp when I got to the netball courts. They get shitty if there's a mess after I ride there. It also makes adjusting easier to rub old marks out.
Fitz is on the money as always, and he's got the feet for the job! I just use 2 purposeful paces to measure out a course, after 2 longish paces I then decide depending on the incline etc where to put the cone, on my toe or a bit in front or a bit behind. It makes setting a course almost as fast as walking. Bigger GS type hill need alot more thinking.
Although pumping around is the basic technique and good practice, the first time you try it between cones you will feel instantly stunted and off balance and it just takes a few runs to get your pace back. As you have no doubt read elsewhere, look ahead 3 or 4 cones, not at the one you going around.
With all these slalom newbies we must have a session again soon...as soon at it stops raining.
Marek,
i just ordered the same timing system you have.
I'm keen to have a roll with mates first chance I can. I have been doing a couple of solo sessions over the last month. There's a different part of the bike track I use for hybrid instead of the long fast straight. I'm limited to my 30 cones but there's room to double that amount.
i have so many questions maybe i shoufd just email fitz and marek direct.
My front truck is on a half inch and the back is on a 1/8 inch riser and then the 7deg dewedge. it feels a little like i am pumping up hill. i think i should rise the back up aswell.
I tried to get some interest in the thread above but alas,,, i am a loner as usual.
just for a giggle check out the way bear delivered the washers
hey fitz, let us know next time you go for a roll... im keen to do more slalom, plus im burrowing some cones of alex at the moment so we could set a longer course..
Yeah keep posting them adam, share the knowledge. Much more interesting than the endless: what wheel should I buy.
earlier in this thread craig asked about front/rear height, all his posts are gone so it won't make sense but the conclusion was to have a higher front truck. Try and let us know!
I'm keen for a beginners sesh. How about late march? Is there anywhere kind of central we could do it? The young guys are all attached to hopkin so something near there might get a few of them along.
On the height topic, my back truck sits slightly lower. Not on purpose either. More by default. Low angle baseplates and kicktail boards just seem to set the axles that way. It never resulted in a wheelbite issue because I crank the bushes very hard so I didn't need to change it.
Jesus who put a bomb under the slalom forum, my in box has exploded today! Excellent stuff!! Yeah second that there is no stupid question in slalom. This is flame free geek friendly zone!
What happened to Craig? I hate it when a prolific poster deletes their account leaves holes everywhere.

125mm might be OK for LDP, but for slalom it's too wide. Narrower gives you more grip and is more responsive. I like about 100mm.

Adam, I love that shape. Modern slalom boards seem to have lots of width up front now just like yours. It is of course the basic shape of the roadster and remind me of this new Kebbek http://www.slalomskateboarder.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=148&t=8107
