    Yeeeah...... CHC 2011.

We have 2 new possible venues for slalom on the central coast

which would also need the council ticks to run an event.

    Plus a drain. :-)

Any dates for CHC 2011 yet?

  • ASRA Admin

    Bugs

The short answer is no. The longer answer is that the CHC is going to be radically different this year. Gonna check out Sutherland as a venue on Sunday. More info to come after that...

would be stoked to see some Super Gs in melbourne this year, i have dusted off the cones a few times and run it out at fitzroy gardens at night and its a great spot, well lit, no hassle with anyone and the pavement is flawless with an uphill run off and a bunch of different slopes to use
  • Bozac

Sutherland has the best surface i have seen for slalom, i think ASRA needs a cycle club front to get councils to hotmix roads for us.... Thanks to all the crew who let me have a trial on their set-ups, so many nice trucks yet so little cash in the wallet!

Sutherland was great with the weather just holding off for about 15 or so riders ranging from slalom techheads to groms on downhill gear. The surface was super smooth and the traditional blood sacrafice to the gods of slalom was made by a couple of lucky souls (the surface even created smooth wounds!).

The word is this will likely be a GS event for the conehead cup in 2011. Bugs was initially setting a loose open course with a slowish top section and a faster lower section with huge side to side "sweepers". He gradually tightened up the course as the day went on creating more speed and interest at the bottom of the course still keeping some of the fun GS sweepers. Just about everyone was making the course even on longboards. Thanks to Mountain Mick for posting some photos.

Let's try and get this session going more often with a monthly session alternating between Sutherland, Allawah and Pumpstation, or anywhere else anyone can think of. Anyone want to call it for the 6th of March?

  • Bozac

hey just got the new concrete wave in the mail and it looks like tracker are doing another production run of the rts/x offsets if anyone is interested. $120 a truck though so it ain't cheap but at least you will be an individual.... i'm thinking the rear would work similar to an airflow but can anyone explain the point behind the offset front truck?
  • Bozac

actually just thinking about that they would both be rears but one would be a bit more turny right?

  • Premium Member

    Marek

Not sure what the deal is with the offset front. I guess it would be like using an original splitfire or an airflow as a front truck, which I've never seen. Having the axle in line with the kingpin is an advantage in the rear and with reverse kingpin fronts. I'm not sure if this is an advantage with conventional kingpin front trucks. I guess bringing the axle back to the kingpin would slow the rate of turn and increase stability?

Anyone tried 78a Mini Hawgs for slalom?

Oh and I also tried those 86a InHeats on my other board and they are fast and grippy until they wear in then you have no chance.

I think that's O-tang wheels in general. Great for the first day of riding then deteriorate and wear out quick.

Retro Zigs are still my number 1 slalom choice. Love em.

  • Elliot O

Had a mad wiggle with Matty L today, need to get an event on up in QLD to help expand the sport of slalom.

    Fitz

Sorry Mick. Cant make it this sunday.

I'll be driving 6 different sports cars from Sydney to the Hunter Valley and back, up Putty rd.

Porche 911, 996 Cabrio, Merc SLK, SL55 AMG, Lotus Elise, BMW Z4.

    OH YEAH!!!!!

  • Elliot O

How did you manage to bag that lot Fitz?!

Had a mad pump along the river bikeway in Brisbane today, super smooth and full of pedestrians to pass! Hilarious fun!

Hey Bozac Did you buy that aqua coloured Radical on slalomskateboarder.com. That would look and go great on your new Aqua Roadster!
  • Bozac

no I wish i had seen it in time...... logged on the next day and was spewing! they only made 15 in that colour apparently and it was so cheap for an unused rad. I was thinking the same thing about it being the perfect colour haha

Bugger, you've got to be quick! Some gems coming up on that site sometimes, that's where I got my 2nd Splitfire.
  • Bozac

yeah i actually saw the sold and on its way to australia reply about the splitfire. i think a split is for sale on pavedwave, they pop up there from time to time also

Hey cone dogers anyone not caught up in the DH vs Luge wars might be following this. The Texas Sizzler is on this week looks like a great race. A great excuse for a trip to the US one day I recon.  This is some youtube of the proposed "slalom cross" course with I think one common cone in the middle. I think this was similar to the Aussie race in Bangalow a few years ago. Looks fun.

Sound good Boyd I love treking to Naccos land for a skate..but of course not this weekend, 2 school picnic things in one weekend. Keep us all informed when your setting up though esp with a timer!
  • Guff

i am trying out a new spot on sunday morning perfect hotmix closed road with a nice incline flattenning out. Will let everyone know how it goes
  • Bozac

hey guys just posted up some slalom gear for sale in the marketplace if anyone is keen. Also I am willing to part with my 'skennett'truck (sk8kings modded bennett front truck, trimmed down to 101mm and with spacers to widen it a touch) for $50 plus shipping or I can bring it to a church of slalom session

  • Premium Member

    Marek

Well it is that time of the month...Anyone up for a Church Session this Sunday?  I recon Allawah but I'm open to other locales.

I can bring cones and a dodgey timing system.

  • Bozac

gotta check if i can get the time off work so count me as a maybe

  • ASRA Admin

    Bugs

    I'll be down at K-Valley...
  • Robbo

Have timer, will travel. This week and next week a lot of groms will be at K-Valley and the Hopkin School of speed. The weekend of the 17th should be locked in for some serious slalom on the new TAG system - it needs a slalom test.
  • Bozac

    17th it is, at allawah?

  • Premium Member

    Marek

Hey I can't argue if the new timing system is going to make an appearance! Lock it in for the 17th Allawah 1pm. Can someone bring a blower?
  • Robbo

    ASRA also has a blower
  • Bozac

so i forked out for a rad front and was wondering if 10 degree was a good starting point for wedging (this is for allawah)? plus those rad bushings seem a bit stiff for my weight but i have never had sphericals before and wasn't sure if i am limited to eliminator style bushings that accommodate a spherical? thanks for any help guys, I have heard they can be a pain to setup right so i might replicate bugs' setup and then make changes from there

    Fitz

I'll bring the kit. I've got some premo gear you can check out, like foam double wedge (superlight) gumball radikal bush, clear radikals, etc.
  • Bozac

    You are the man fitz!
  • Bozac

anyone interested in some high end second hand gear this just went up on ISSA

Thanks to everyone for a great day at Allawah (thought I'd post here as the events pages fade away quickly).

Was the best sesh at Allawah for a couple of years. Many thanks to Bugs for a fast and fun course, and to Robbo (and the other fella, whos name I didnt catch) for lugging, setting up and running the excellent new TAG timer which seemed to work fault free all day.

Next one in the Mountains I recon. Any of the BMBs want to call it before it gets too cold?

Who's got the time results from sundays session? I know Hagbags laid down an 18.7 before I left.

I said it on sunday, jumping on the slalom stick and pumping the cones at Allawah is like re-acquainting with an old friend. So much fun.

  • ASRA Admin

    Bugs

Results from the recent CoS, better late than never. These are probably a little dodgy cos the cone counting wasn't too exact...

    Thanks bugs,

Wow, the times really came tumbling down after I left!

If I had the time I would have loved skating that course for the rest of the day. Maybe even improve my time a bit better.

  • Premium Member

    Marek

I recon another couple of runs and you would have gone under 19sec Fitz (esp with some help from those kids on the bikes ;)). I struggled to get under 20 sec and finally did it on my last run. That is the beauty of timed runs it just pushes you to do that little bit better each run.
  • Bozac

hey fitz i don't know if you got my message but after you left i realised i still had those risers of yours so if you want i can hold onto them until next time i see you or post them if you need them
