Hey crew.

Just a quick note to say big props! We are a small team here at Prince Albert, and have gone through a lot of R&D to teach ourselves how to make boards to a marketable quality. All the boards posted are seriously good looking. Some skills out there that we are hoping to get to ourselves.

Cheers!

Hi Builders, I need some tips.

I'm looking to build a kiteboard, which I know is a bit off topic, but the diy kiteboarders aren't up to using laminate like skaters do. (its more like two sheets of marine ply stuck together!)

Because the board is larger (140*41cm) I need to go to full sheets of laminate, which I can only get in 0.6mm (Briggs - they do skate packs of rock maple too). Construction will be several layers of laminate, foam core under the feet, glass top and…

My question is: How many layers of veneer do I need? It will be fairly stiff in the middle due to the foam, but needs a fair bit of flex at the tips - like a dervish or apex, or more flex. I'm guessing 9 layers will do it.

My other big concern is trapped air - do you do anything to remove it or does vac-bagging sort that.

Ok so most of you probably know we are taking an extended break from building. Our press is just sitting in our workshop gathering dust. We would much rather see it being used for building awesome decks so its up for sale.

It features two 10 tonne Liftec rams with 200mm of stroke powered by a high quality Enerpac two speed hand pump. All the fittings, hoses and gauge are also Enerpac. The hydraulics were all bought brand new just over a year ago and can hold up to 700 psi of pressure indefinately. Less than half that is actually required to press a board

As you can see from the pic these rams push a 1220 x 400 x 10mm steel plate that is reinforced with two 150mm c channels that are all welded and gusseted. What does this mean? Extremely even pressure over the whole plate. Deflection is next to zero. Pressing multiple boards at once is a breeze. The base plate is adjustable up and down for different mold thicknesses and the custom made springs return the rams and plate to the top once pressure is released. The whole thing sits on heavy duty lockable rubber castors for easy transportation and movement around your workshop. Not shown in the photo below is the hand pump and the bracket it sits on that mounts on the side of the vertical upright.

We have designed and built this press with the same quality as our boards. The steel, materials and hydraulics alone for this beast cost around $4000 not to mention labour. We are looking for offers around $2500.

These are industrial strength super heavy duty forms made from railway sleepers.

You will need a press to create your decks with these forms.

They are total surface contact forms, not just edge bending which means you get constant pressure across the entire deck making a much stronger veneer bond.

Super smooth polished timber cavity half.

Core half surface is moulded directly from opposite side using builders bog.

Can make anything up to 36"x11" boards from memory.

Modern design with nice concave and flat kicktails. Slightly higher angled nose kick.

Regular wheelbase is about 15" however I made a few decks with the front truck mounted on the kick long before Bustin came out pushing the wheelbase out to about 20"- 21".

These are very heavy. Somewhere between 30-50kg?? so pickup is the only option.

I borrowed them from a friend and he won't take them back. Now I just want them gone.

I'm just putting it out there to see if anyone local is interested. I'm in the Sutherland Shire, Sydney.

I can provide more info for serious buyers wanting to make an offer.

I'll be using this in my board building but there is far more than I could ever use. Would people be interested in purchasing any?

This is simply an EOI at the moment as I'm still waiting to see what comes, I have no idea on postage or freight so for a start it may be pick up only (located on the QLD/NSW border) If you would be interested let me know & I'll keep you all posted when I know more.
Where to buy wood In Brisbanetag:www.skateboardracing.org.au,2012-09-17:2144162:Topic:7595102012-09-17T23:42:10.136ZNatohttp://www.skateboardracing.org.au/profile/NathanGilbert
