Boards on a plane?

for the bubble wrap and a box to wrap up a board it shouldnt cost you any more than like $20

I carried my trucks and wheels in my hand luggage and the Melbourne airport security stopped me because the wheels showed up as liquid. I suggest taking the wheels out and putting them through xray in the plastic bins just to save time if u want to carry them in your hand luggage.

it all depends on who you get at security. Ive been through airports all over the world (and oz) and sometimes they let me through with trucks and wheels in my hand luggage sometimes they make me check them in because they are a 'potential weapon'.
Also you could just run into a dickhead in security. I was coming home from QLD with Ramon from Switzerland and we both had trucks/wheels in our carry on luggage. I went through first and i was fine, then he went through and they pulled out everything he owned pretty much and said that it was a potential weapon. When he said to them that i just went through with trucks and wheels and i didn't get busted they just said "thats not our problem" so just be extra careful and if in doubt just check it in, because sometimes you come across real assholes who just wanna make your day a little bit harder

Is there such a thing as longboard travel bags? If not someone should come up with some. That way you can chuck your longboards into the padded travel bag and check them in with the rest of your luggage. I've travelled o/s a few times with 2 surfboards and never get charged extra. Should be the same with longboards.

there are bags available, but the main question was about taking a small board on as hang luggage... and that question then evolved into ideas such as taking the trucks/wheels apart and taking them as carry on and sticking the deck in a bag, saving yourself from taking another bag altogether, to which the answer is MAYBE... it all depends on the people working at the security checkpoints and if they feel your carrying 'weapons' or not...

golf-travel bags work well for this, usually big enough for 2-4 complete boards, leathers and a helmet.
